I take oral antibiotics but am thinking about adding cats claw. Does anyone have an opinion on wheather you can take the two together?

I dont know where Im going to fit in another thing. All this with food, empty stomach, 2 hrs apart and on and on. For a brain damaged soul it really is a sretch to do it.

I do make mistakes. I recently realized the whole 3 months I was on biaxin I was taking it with calcium. A big no no. I thought I wasnt but now I realize that the fermented soy powder I was using has magnesium and calcium in it.

I knew it before but somehow when I was taking the biaxin it just didnt register. No wonder it didnt do any good. Geeze!!!!!!!!

I need a keeper, do you think medicare will pay for that. I will start medicare next month. Im sure my doc would write the scrip. Do they come with leashes???

I take TOA-free cat's claw (a brand called saventaro) with mega antibiotics. Not only does it help a lot, but it may have been addressing a hidden case of bartonella.

There was an intense herx for a week, with nightmares, dizziness, the usual neuro nonsense. Not being a doctor, I can't say what side effects you should put up with. But in my case, it may have helped keep bart at bay.

Thanks Liz but can you tell me if you take it at the same time as your abx or do you seperate them and if so what is your rule of thumb.

I try to space all the abx and herbs a little apart, by at least a half hour, and to add in liver protectors between strong abx. The claw never seemed to react to anything else in particular, but a lot of times, taking too much at once of anything really overwhelmed my system.

Also, you might do one of two things with the claw: start slowly and build up to a full dose, since it can be strong at first, and start out taking it before you go to sleep, in case it knocks you out.

It is my understanding (and this is what Jordan has been doing for quite a while) that it's OK to take Cat's Claw along with antibiotics. He's taking 2/500 mg capsules of cat's claw twice a day, plus 1000 mg. Biaxin twice a day. We have been getting the Cat's Claw at http://www.rain-tree.com/rtmprod.htm

Yes I take Cats Claw tablets 3 times daily together with my abx and no problems. I have very big improvements in my health and I am very encouraged.

Thanks everyone, Im getting ready to place my order pdq. Im sick and tired of being sick and tired. I want to see if their is life beyond my 4 walls.

Most everything Ive read says that the drops are more effective than the pills so Im going with the drops and will take them when I take the abx.

I found Allergy Research at a very cheap price at the Organic Pharmacy. They are even a lot cheaper than the vitamin shoppe for the exact same product.

Thanks for helping me. I wish better health for us all.

I didn't know you couldn't take calcium with biaxin (a macrolide). Are you sure your not thinking of Doxy and calcium?

I take ketek(another macrolide)with my protein shake every morning............ hope I am not ruining my ketek ........

I haven't been able to find anything on an interaction of biaxin and calcium.

I just looked up "Clarithomycin" (Biaxin and Biaxin XL) in "The Pill Book" 11th edition.

I am not a pharmacist or MD, of course, but I am a librarian and I like to look things up The book says that there are no food interactions with Biaxin.

"Clarithromycin (Biaxin) can be taken without regard to food or meals". Nothing mentions avoiding calcium.

I see written under doxycycline (note the last part of the paragraph):

"Antacids, mineral supplements and multivitamins containing bismuth, calcium, zinc, magnesium, or iron may reduce the effectiveness of tetracycline - with the exception of doxycycline and minocycline."

and in the Food Interactions section:

"Take all tetracycline antibiotics, except for doxycycline and minocycline, on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals and with 8 oz. of water......Doxycycline and minocycline may be taken with food or milk."

Double check with a pharmacist, k?

There is no interaction with biaxin and calcium, there is for doxy and biaxin though.

I believe ALL abx have to be spaced apart from magnesium though! Not sure on that one, but I believe so.

Biaxin will lower your body's Vitamin K, so you may want to add that into yoru regime.

On the samento and abx, yep, I have heard people take them together.

"There is no interaction with biaxin and calcium, there is for doxy and biaxin (did you mean 'Calcium' here?) though."

Thanks for lookng into this.........I just thought maybe I had messed up 3 months of ketek and that would be a bummer.

My head is spinning, more info. No Im not sure of anything.

I took plaquenil with the biaxin and ketek, both for 3 months. The plaquenil has to be taken with food so I think I took both of them wih the calcium-magnesium.

I just dont know what I did, at least I wouldnt bet a nickle on it.

I am taking Doxy now and that has to be taken with food so says the bottle. Im not taking the plaquenil any more cuz of no results.

My doc said to not take any minerals 2hrs on either side of the doxy.

The first week or so I was doing the mineral enriched soy with the morning doxy and feeling no results.

Realized what I was doing and changed and within 10 days the major herx started. I dont thing I have a place on my body that doesnt feel like someone had their way with me with a big stick during the night

Might just be that it was time for the doxy to start working, who knows, Im just glad to finally feel something after 7 months of abx.

I still need a keeper to keep all this straight. I have a system but the stupid brain often interfers and fails me. I just keep on keeping on, what other choice do I have.

Hope I didnt get anyone all upset with my posts.
