I've noticed over the past 2 days that my 4 year old daughter has had bad breath. It's struck me as very odd since I don't think it's usual for children so young to ever have bad breath.

She sucks her thumb and index finger (yeah, wierd, huh?), and when she woke up this morning she had this white-colored outline around the area where spit comes out in the night due to the thumb/finger sucking thing.

Our LLMD has told us that it's the rare case when he's seen toddlers with yeast. I give her acidopholus every day at noon which is well spaced out from her abx.

Does bad breath and the whitish-colored film point to yeast/candida? She has no stomach upset nor any other symptoms of yeast that I've been able to detect. As a matter of fact, she's seemed to be symptom free of anything, including Lyme/Bartonella, other than swollen lymph nodes for 11 days now (crossing my fingers here!).

Still, I worry. Mommies, have you experienced anything like this with your toddlers?

Has anyone else seen this with toddlers?

One capsule of acidopholis sounds pretty minimal. Hopefully some of the other mom's will get on here with an answer. I tend to like to take it at least twice a day, to cover after all antibiotic doses.

I'm so happy to hear that symptoms are so much better! Good News for the New Year!

It may take a while for the lymph nodes to go down, as they are busy cleaning up all the dead bacteria. Just make sure she gets plenty of liquids, so the lymph is fluid enough to keep things moving out.

Up for some more suggestions.

When my daughter was having trouble with yeast she wouldn't swallow her spit.

She would constantly tell me she had to spit. We would keep tissue around so she had someplace to spit.

Our LLMD put her on Nystatin, the powder. And she took the chewable acidophilus 3 times a day.

The symptoms you described do seem like they could be from yeast. Call your doc and see what he/she thinks.

I wish you the best! My daughter is doing pretty good these days. She started school

this year and is doing good. I feel very lucky with her progress. She is a congenital lymie.

We were diagnosed almost 3 years ago. It's hard to believe it's been that long!

Does she eat dairy (milk, soy, goat)?
My granddaughter had these little white milky things in her mouth and super ear infections. She is allergic to dairy. Stopped all the above. She is fine and growing like a weed!

It's untrue that toddlers can get yeast, in fact, they can get systemic candiasis as just the well of us.

Systemic candiasis about knocked my son off at the age of three. He needed a deep line PICC to his heart with antifungals basically just to save his life.

ANYONE can get yeast. If you are alive, you can get it.

The symptosm in him ( and my daughter who is now fighting yeast after 7 years of abx)

White tongue
White spots on fingernails
Mucousy stool or urine
Crankiness
Bloating
Fevers
Diarrhea
Sore throat
Constant complainign of belly aches
Small hive like rashes that surface up on their skin- look like pimples of some sort, and have oft times been diagnosed as Eczema

with my son he had a telltale sign of a red ring around his anus and his anus itches. His bowel movements get lighter and "yeasty looking" like proofed yeast. He had terrible yeast, even before the lyme, when he was a baby and toddler probably because I was on abx while pregnant with him.
