My Nephew who is 13 3/4. is positive on his bowan test, 1:60 and also positive for Bb. What do they give you for this coinfection? He see's Dr. S in Hermitage Pa.

He goes on thursday to be sqeezed in to see the Dr and Nurse, they told my sister that tehy will give him a diff, regimen than what I am on because I have straight Lyme. I feel bad for him, Also is this a hard coinfection to control?

Thanks
Annette

Im guessing he is positive on his bowen test for babesia?

I believe Dr. S uses Mepron to treat that.

From my understanding, Mepron is the standard drug used to treat babesia. Babesia is a tick-borne parasite that lives in red blood cells.

There are options besides Mepron, but they might not be as effective or might take a longer time to work. My LLMD has decided to give me a less aggressive treatment, including Ketek (a newer abx they think may kill parasites), Plaquenil (an antimalarial) and Artemisinin (an herb).

The reason for the less aggressive treatment is that, although I have symptoms, I haven't tested positive for babesia. I'm also showing signs of pancreatitis, which I think is making her nervous about adding Mepron.

Mepron is a very strong drug. Urge your sister to ask questions and understand the potential side effects.
