I am really interested in some good news from the folks using Ketek out there.

You could post it here or email me at

Hi Tony,

Just last week I was going to post with the heading "Oh Yeah, Ketek Rocks!"

I have been doing so much better on Ketek. I've been taking it for 2 months now. I take 2 pills once a day. I can't remember if they're 300mg each or 400mg each.

I had my LLMD appointment last Monday (Dec 27) and we took away Ceftin 500mg bid and added Minocycline 100mg bid.

I had actually stopped the Ceftin 2 weeks before my appointment because it was making me really tired. About 1/2 hour after taking it, I felt like I had to sleep no matter where I was or what I was doing.

I've now taken 3 minocyclines. The first 2 were in one day and I got really dizzy. I also had a spell of 4 days of dizziness on Ketek and Ceftin about a month ago. Stopped the mino and just started again last night. I'm going to take one a day for a bit and ramp up.

While I was feeling good, my dog wanted to run around my apartment complex and I was able to keep up the whole way. I got all my holiday shopping done with no problem. I was able to keep track of what needed to be done really well. I drove up and back to my mountain property in one day (5 hours).

Right now, I'm herxing again. I've had a head and neck ache for about 3 days plus a lot of fatigue. I may be getting a cold/flu type illness but I'm not sure. I've found headaches are very common with Ketek. Fortunately, ibuprofen takes care of it.

I've been ill for many years and have been in a constant degraded state. I only had 3 good spells in 2.5 years of treatment. I've tested + for Bb, HME, Babs, Bart and M. Fermentins.

Prior to starting Ketek, I was treated 6 months for babesia with Mepron and Zithromax. I can't say if that is the basis of my feeling better or not

When I started Ketek, I felt bad for about 3 weeks then I had a week of feeling good. After that, 2 weeks bad and then 3 weeks good. That puts me to now where I'm on day 5 or 6 of feeling bad again. I consider my current situation excellent.

So, best of luck to you. I'm assuming that you will be starting or have started Ketek. Let's hope you have good results too.

Take care,

Corgilla

I can not say to much for the ketek but two things:
1)It is hard on my stomach.
2)When I take ketek my urine looks foamy after some hours, when I stop ketek my urine goes to normal.
It is instanteanously!!!
Im sure 100% about this reaction.

I would like to know if someone else have the same foamy reaction.

Have been on it about four months. It works great when paired with omnicef.

It also uncovered two untreated co-infections, by reducing Lyme symptoms to the point where I could tell them apart.

I have heard from others that the herxes are really hard, and constant. It made me feel like hell for 2 months. I got so swollen and sore all over, tendonitis, spasms, twitching, and joint pain and swelling. It is a real belly bomb, and the nausea for me made it almost intolerable. If I was herxing for 2 straight months then it was working awesome, but I felt like hell the entire time, every day and noticed no cycles what so ever. Since stopping it, the swelling has gone down so maybe I was having a herx every day all day, so swollen, all over. I'm supposed to start it up again in a week, but not unless i can get my stomach to calm down first.
the jury is still out!

I've been on Ketek two months and so far, so good. I didn't herx bad, but I had been on abx for 8 months prior to switching to Ketek.

I stopped taking Augmentin along with the Ketek about 3 weeks ago. My blood tests showed an increase in my pancreatic enzymes, so my LLMD wanted to reduce my med load.

With Ketek as my only abx, I have no visible signs of yeast. All thrush is gone. I'm on diflucan and probiotics, but still had thrush until I stopped the Augmentin.

I added Artemisinin about a month ago. That definitely added lots of vertigo and lightheadedness, which my LLMD takes as signs of babs. My LLMD said that some doctors think the Ketek may actually kill babesia. I'm kind of her guinea pig on that - my babs regiment is Artemisinin, Ketek and Plaquenil.

Hi again,

Don't know if WildCondor will be back but if so, are you taking Ketek with food? I've also seen it suggested to take 400mg in am and 400mg in pm.

I really wanted to add that I've had graying hair since I was 32ish. Lately, my gray hair has been disappearing.

I thought that was a tremendous step in the right direction.

Take care,

Corgilla

I should add, I was a walking zombie first few weeks on Ketek. Completely exhausted and wiped out.

Ditto, I seem to need a nap after I take Ketek, even if it's in the am. Strange but it hit me more like Flagyl, than like other macrolides.

I may have to take this stuff only in the PM.

What is known about Ketek's ability to cross the BBB and to enter tissue?

Seems there is little info about this drug on the web. Even at ketek.com (under construction.)

Are there any reports on the long-term effects of this drug yet (i.e., >1y after termination)?

Michael

I'm pulsing 400mg of Ketek twice a day every other week with Flagyl, along with IV Rocephin the entire time. Fun, fun!

I had a herx immediately with the Ketek combination...but it's hard to say if it was the Ketek or the Rocephin as I started them on the same day.

Now I'm on my third week of Ketek and I'm having more good days than bad. I've had Lyme for 2 years (that I know of) and mostly have joint/muscle pain, brain fog, headaches and yeast issues.

Ketek seems to be gentler than the Flagyl as far as gastro stuff.

My teen was on it for a couple of months. I had heard very good things about it and was hopeful, but it just didn't work for him in his case. He felt lousy on it - there was no herx and no improvement. Probably wasn't a good 'match' for him.

Not to say that it won't work for someone else tho....

zman...sorry I can't give you a positive response (but I guess it's not actually negative either).

I'm on my second month. Haven't had a noticeable herx or significant improvement yet.

(I'm also on rocephin...month four...and while I did herx at the beginning, no real improvement.)

Not sure what you can tell from my experience. I've been on lots of different abx and have proven to be 'treatment resistant' so far. I think my LLMD may pursue babs next.

my 14 y/o has been on Ketek since August - right before school started.

She takes it at night w/ dinner. She's reported no tummy probs w/ it at all but, her fatigue is still quite bad.

Prior to Ketek, she'd been on Mino/Zith for about 13 months and before that, Zith alone for 12 months.

She also takes a prenatal vitamin, ADP (Oil of Oregano), Acidophilus, and anti-inflammatories as needed. Since beginning school, her reactive airway began acting up and she's using the inhaler once a day.

Upon beginning Ketek - we always start things very slowly, she developed a cough. I reported it to the company as it wasn't a common side effect. After about 6 weeks on the med, the cough subsided. We (Dr. J, our PCP, and us) feel it was related to the med.

On a positive note, she seems much better able to think. Her cognitive problems have subsided somewhat and her grades are maintaining - even w/ her fatigue and CP which also contribute to her probs!

Now, today she isn't doing so well and stayed home from school complaining of pains in her arms and legs. Not sure but, could be soreness from the activity associated w/ returning to school Wednesday as she basically slept thru her whole Christmas break!!

Hope she feels better soon. We see Dr. J in March - so far, I think Ketek has been good in our situation. Perhaps, it needs a chaser tho!!

Take care and good luck,
Sherry

Thanks for the info on Ketek...I guess for most of us the jury is still out...I know I feel pretty weak and stuff on it but am going to try to tough it out for about as long as I can.....

I can't believe some docs are still prescribing anti-inflams to any of we lymies...I at least in my case have had nothing but a continuance or worseening of my symptoms whenever given any type of anti inflam.....

well good luck folks....let's hope there is a positive outcome with this cell entering antibiotic...I wouldn't want to feel this lousey for nothing.........zman
