I am wondering if you could take doxy as well as mino together? My reasoning is that mino is fat soluble while doxy is water soluble.

I am currently on rafampin and mino for bartonella, but I know that doxy can eliminate one strain of this by itself, so maybe taking all three would be even more effective? any thoughts appreciated!

mino and doxy are both tetracycline drugs, which means they are bateriostatic.

their effect is to arrest the infection from multiplying in the cell.

it would be redundant to take both.

rifampin and mino sounds like a very acceptable and effective approach to treating bart and lyme simultaneously.

If you can actually tolerate those two abx together, stay on them! Mino is a fantastic abx, much more effective than doxy.

thanks for the replies! yes, I have every intention of staying on the mino and rifampin.

I don't know what you mean by me "tolerating" this. I have been literally in the thros of the worst herx imaginable for months now! lol And I have seen some improvement...

Still can't walk but I sure can feel something going on in my spine! Liz, what criteria should I use to decide whether this stuff is tolerable? I know you've had your run ins with mino. thanks kt

What does your LLMD say?

The effects of those two drugs would probably be additive, meaning that you would be taking a very high equivalent dose of one of those two abx.

My $.02, I wouldn't do it without checking with a doctor.

Mathias, ya, I think you're exactly right about the dosage. I'm taking 200/day mino and 600/day rifampin. I was thinking the doc could sub 100/ doxy in place of 100 of the mino. just a thought

in case doxy targets a different strain of bart?

Okay, here's my newbie's info. I already knew I had MRSA in my sinuses and went to an infectious disease doc after months of failed treatment by others. He put me on linezolid which is a new oral antibiotic for MRSA (don't know about Lyme) for a month and then mino 200 mg a day with many refills. When I tested positive for Lyme I had been on mino for a few months. I'm not sure what this means but my pcp told me to stop the mino when he started me on the doxy. Within 2 days, the sinus symptoms started coming back so I'm going to start it again until I see the infectious disease doc on the 27th. Both are only 100 mg bid so I hope it helps rather than hurts.
