Hello Everyone,

Has anyone else had drastic changes in

the texture, elasticity, dryness, moisture

pore size etc... of your skin? Does anyone

have dryer hair or hair that is thinner and

falling out?

If so,

do you think it's from the abx? Not enough

good bacteria left on the skin? ......

Lyme?....Penicillan?

yes, my skin and hair have been VERY much affected by antibiotics.

I switched to a better probiotic, and upped my homemade yogurt, which I do off and on so as not to get an allergy to it ands skin is getting better, also take nystatin, which REALLY helps me.

You may need a good vit, mins supp if youare not taking one.

ALSO, the b vitamins require good bacteria to work, I think good bowel bacteria is needed for vitamin K as well.

Biotin which is a b vitamin is important for hair health, but before supplementing with b vitamins, upp your probiotics, or switch to a better one.

yogurt is very good for some, so try this, make your own is better.

Read up on which vitamins require good bacteria to be synthesized.

Hope this makes sense, I am herxing bad right now.

I have been off of all meds for over a year now. ANd I still have alligator skin and dry hair. Have had the thyroid checked 4 times and it's ok. Before lyme never had a problem with dry skin.

I had my thyroid checked 4 yrs. ago. I do have hypo. I used to have this great big head of hair but it is a fraction of what it was. The b vitamins .. I agree I think are key..

Check hormone levels. I finally convinced my LLMD to run the test, and my progesterone level was extremely low. I've been using an OTC herbal cream and I'm no longer shedding like the cat and my skin has gotten better.

I also have had changes in my hair and skin. Hair has become much oiler on the Rocephin and my face is a world I don't even want to go to. Small bumbs all over like a breakout when you were a teenager! Ugh! You are not alone....

one of my symptpms I associate with lyme is my hair started falling out, lots in the sink when I would dry it. That was before ABX treatment and it is better now that Im being treated. My skin has gotten very dry also and that is not better.

when my dear husband and i got together 10 1/2 years ago he had the most beautiful skin i have ever seen on any person over the age of 2. really! he was healthy and had an unbelievably good diet (organic farmer and hunter - also incredibly handsome )

since he started 'making whoopie' with me, his skin is terrible dry and thin, and his hair is so dry and dull. also some other lyme-like health problems. gonna get him tested soon too!

flax seed oil HELPS. we take softgels but you can drink the oil or put it in a smoothie or on oatmeal, whatever. does help.

also a dry skin tip an old friend taught me - 'dry' off after a shower with a wet washcloth instead of a towel, then slather on some almond or olive oil.

I am not sure if it affected my hair or not. It did affect my skin I use to have soft baby like skin now it is thin dry and prematurely aging with small wrinkles especially on my arms (sun exposure).

Wow. Thanks for the responses I though it was just me. My skin is very oily. It was never this oily.......My hair is still falling out in the sink! Do you think it it from the antibiotics? or the lyme.... I definately need to start b shots. I have a script somewhere for them... Kinda scared to give my self a shot though...

Yes,

My hair used to silky smooth. My skin is dryer and my hair is like straw and is falling out like crazy.

My son's hair is like straw too and getting worse all the time and he has dark circles under his eyes and blotchy skin.

My thryoid has been checked many time and yes flax oil helps but Dr, Burrascano says no flax seed oil if on abx. Use evening primrose instead.

My hair has been getting thiner, so much so my hairdresser asked if I had male pattern balness in my family! I am a woman.

She said it can happen to women.
I did not have this problem before Lyme!
I am not on antibiotics.

So good to hear that I am not the only one. I have not been officially diagnosed yet, but am seeing a LLMD in March.

Long story short... I was bit in August and presented with a rash/"bull's eye". I was treated with Doxy. for two weeks. In October, I began facial flushing (almost daily). Had one derm say it was rosacea and one derm say that I needed to follow up on the bite, since I was not treated long enough. My face stings as well.

About the same time my hair seemed to change in both color and texture. It always seems oily now. My skin changed as well. It is very oily with an increase in pore size and seems really hypersensitive to touch or products. I also flush (with no rosacea triggers).

You can search my other posts as well for other replies about changes in skin/hair. By far this is not the only symptom, but the most visible and constant.

This has really helped me. Was recommended to me by another Lymie.

As someone stated....get the hormones checked and make sure you're taking plenty of B vitamins.
