I decided to give it a try because I heard so many people say they felt it was an important aspect of their treatment. With the medical studies behind it supporting some of the claims, I decided I wanted to try a treatment that actually feels good.
Be careful of the smaller portable saunas, as many are made of materials that could off gas when heated. Even if you are not already chemically sensitive, you don't need to add to the load you are carrying.
I was originally going to build one, based on plans at Dr. Wilson's Sauna Therapy. But it was too complicated to figure out how to adapt it for chemical sensitivities, and do the electrical work. Maybe you can, cause quite a few do well with it. My doctor actually gave me this info and recommended it, because so many of his patients are doing well with it.
I ended up buying a High Tech Health Sauna. If you tell them you have Lyme Disease, they will give a discount. I've been quite happy with it so far, even though the poplar wood does off gas some. There are other brands people have bought and been very happy with as well.
As far as the neurological symptoms, one woman told me that it was very effective in treating her previously untreatable depression, which is neurological. My pain is also neurological, and it is helping with that. Whether it will work for you, I have no way to tell.

I bought a FIR sauna from High Tech Health and have been using it since Sept. At first it caused significant herxing, but now, as she said, it just plain feels good. Especially with the cold winter weather we have been having.
I feel it has really help with detoxing and with joint pain. I have not noticed any significant difference with neurological symptoms but have been using several different antibiotic treatments along with it.
Also great for controlling weight without strenuous exercise.
If you can afford it - go for it - feels great!!

With a $500 discount, and a waiver on the $260 shipping fees, it was just under $3000 for the smallest sauna. I like that model, because it (just!) fits in my bedroom, and I didn't have to have special wiring.
If you have the room, and can afford it, it would be nice to have a bigger size. That way you could lay down if you need to. But I'm happy with mine so far.
Tell them you have Lyme, and heard about them on Lymenet. Jennifer Ibbotson is the one that does the Lyme discount. She also told me they often have a special on shipping near the end of the month.
You might want to check around, though. Saunacore and Heavenly Heat also make really nice saunas, with prices fairly close. Be sure you check what the electrical requirements are.
Some people have gotten good deals on e-bay, but I couldn't find any that weren't cedar. cedar is too toxic for me, with MCS. I also just missed a High Tech one on Craig's List. The people sold it right before I saw the ad. So check around if you want a deal.
