Hi everyone. I have been lurking on and off thru this weird year, and I appreciate all the info and friendliness that you have here.
My problem is this: when I finally have been diagnosed or at least told it really probably is Lyme, so why not treat it, we will travel some time in the next 2 months. My Dr. wants me on 2 months of Rocephen (sp?) with a picc line. I could possibly travel early (we have no way to fully predict), and have to de-picc without the whole 2 months in me.

Do I want to do this at a time when I have to plan and pack for the trip? Or will I feel so much more energy being treated? What about the herxing? Would that continue after the 2 mo is over, and I start my 3 years of Doxy? Are these even the best abx's according to new research?

I am very drained in the day, have a surge in the after-nap-noon, a dip from the dinner work, and a surge. I have tingling, the jaw-neck-shoulder-arm-spine "zinger" on my R, grayed R sight, weak, pained, cold R arm, twitchies (I don't think I'm doing the best I can on the Mag front), low temp, brain fog, clearly slowed R reflexes (the decider for this Dr., I think) and no lesions. These all come and go according to my state of sleep and how busy it is. I almost withered to frantic mush about Christmas.

Any and all opinions welcome!
Laura

You certainly are an energetic and abitious woman. MY OPINION: Do the one month or 6 weeks of Rocephin and then go to China. You may feel much better. I, myself have never herxed... some don't. And IF, you have just Lyme and no other co-infections you may have a reprieve from this disease for a long time. I did after only 3 weeks of Rocephin. Lyme did re-occur after 2 years, but I was much better after the first Rocephin treatment.
I wish you much luck and happiness with your new child.... Laczi

Laczi,
If I had not already trained the kids to behave quite well, and if I HAD to leave the house more than 3 times a week, I would have had to cancel our big trip. We made all of these plans before I had an energy problem, and I'm trying to be a trooper.
I was actually feeling better, except for some fatigue and coldness, after 1.5 months of Doxy 200, and when all symptoms came back within 2 weeks, I seemed to get quite better on 6 weeks of Doxy 400. I tried some thyroid support herb prep along with RM-10, and had a nice warm 101.5 fever fro 4 days and my painful wrist and shoulder got a bit swollen and more pained, but then they resolved and felt much much better. I was warmer, and had this whole spell of zits/sores which were quite huge and gross, but suggested strongly that my immune system must have been turned on. I was feeling very good, but then my stomach? maybe was not liking the 2 supps. I stopped them. I'm colder, and just found a very seasoned Dr. to help. I'm hoping the RM-10 actually made me finally make antibodies to more than just 41kd, because I was just tested again, and actually for co-infections, too. Thanks for replying so late at night. I'd better retire, huh?!
ZingTing

So I guess I think I will feel pretty good on the IV Rhocephin.

WELCOME To LYMENET

Here's more goodys! A typical response to newcomers.

Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.

Post for a LLMD in Seeking a Doctor. Ps remember I am not a Dr, just a fellow sufferer.

Herx may be bad, fine. But postponing the adoption may not be the good approach (unless you are in doubt about adopting).

I'm sure you waited a long time for a referral and it would take forever to get another chance at that.

Not to mention the fact that your agency might stop taking you seriously if you cancel the trip. BTW, if you do decide to cancel, do not mention it is for medical reasons.

The bottom line is: there's a little one waiting for you on the other side of the planet. No herx, as bad as they are, should play against that.

Boy, you're tougher than me! Is there any way you can convince your dr that claforan might be better than the Rocephin? I would do alot of reasearch on the Rocephin....here on lymenet..

All i hear about is people relapsing after going off it....even with continued orals immediately afterwards.

You may feel great while on it, but my fear would be that you would feel horrible just at the time you need most to feel WELL.

you can do a search by clicking on the little blue word "search" in the upper right hand corner of this page.

Good luck......I hope things go well for you and your family!

Christelleny:
Whoa, I never meant postpone the trip. That WILL be happening, even if I lose an arm the week before! All of my Dr.s think I am ok to go, although the LLMD wants to have me do the iv abx before. I meant postpone having the picc line, and go on orals until we got back.

Let's say I could do 8 weeks, and the line came out 3 days before I got on the plane. Am I going to have a hurting arm from the line? Can I lug my share of the luggage? If I am a herxer, will it still be happening then? Am I going to still be feeling yukky for whatever reason one might feel yukky while doing iv abxs? Is the abx itself draining?

I don't think I'm tough, I just think that because of my neurobiology background (and don't think that is extensive, cuz I can mostly understand the chemistry explanations here, but could never have produced them)I noticed my neuro symptoms early, and started to do something about it very quickly and urgently. I used to test potential Parkinson's drugs, and I'll tell you, I do not want to go out like some of my animals did (they are my little heros who saved a lot of people from dying, we never found a safe enough drug while I was there).

I think I have a good chance of being on orals and feeling good enough to handle the trip fine. The doxy helped a lot in the summer. But I am somewhat worse, now.

Gotta go.
ZT
