I have had strep throat with "normal" temps, white count of 27,000 with a pelvic infection in hosp with temp of 95.6--the nurses would come in at night and wake me up and take my damn temp 4 times, use different thermometers and I would finally have to tell them that is normal for me--please let me sleep!!
I have had a battery of test on my thyroid and have showed liturature to my rheumatologist when the dx was fibro and cfs on how a low basil temp can indicate low thyroid function or uptake and that a low dose of synthroid would help---at least 10 have said no--tests are normal.
Frustrating--now I have been off iv abx since 12/21/04 and have a host of other problems and temp has dropped also back to 96----------things that make you go Hmmmmmmmmm!!
I am new to this, and finally have made an appointment with a LLMD. I was positive on the Lyme Screen (Elisa), but neg on the Wb. I have had over 30 of Burrescano's symptoms since October. I have been checking my temp on a regular basis and it never has gone above 98. The overall feeling that I've had is one that would be indicative of infection...with the headaches and muscle aches all seeming to move around...including one instance of an encephalitis-like episode that drove me to the ER.
The "lack of a high temp" has made me second-guess whether I have an issue (Lyme) or not. It certainly causes the "other" types of doctors to dismiss one's suspicions of any kind of infection very quickly.
I think this is a very serious consequence/symptom that causes people to postpone getting help, thus leading to chronic Lyme.
Great Topic/question
My 14 year-old has low body temperature, cold hands and feet, sometimes an range hue to her skin, puffiness in face and arms, fatigue, and most improtantly, gains weight if she eats more than 1,000 calories a day.
Her endocrinoloigst (she has type 1 diabetes in addition to Lyme) said her thyroid tests were low two years in a row, in the springtime. He called it "sick euthyroid syndrome." He said this menas it is caused by the Lyme, not by thyroid dysfunction, and that Synthroid or whatever wouldn't help her.
Recently, her thyroid tests were in the low range of normal, but her symptoms are even worse. She doesn't eat much, but gains weight and is paincky about it. MD's don't udnerstand and think it's an eating disorder. To pacify them, I took her to an eating disorder clinic AND a psychologist, and neither one says she has an eating disorder.
Also fatigue and bouts of depression.
I am thinking about aggressively finding an MD who will consider trying supplements for her thyroid.
Can anyone tell me if, once you take Synthroid or Armour thyroid or any other thyroid supplement, if you then have to take it forever? Any stories about side effects.
Most doctors we deal with just don't believe us. My daughter has also had the problme of having a "normal temp." with an infection and meeting skepticism when she says that for her, it's a fever.
Take care,
Cigi
Temperature runs between 96.4 and 97.5. Have always had 98.6 temp my whole life. Now if it hits this high I break out in sweat and feel like I am burning up.
Hypothyroidism doesn't make since for me because I can eat anything I want and am still under ideal body wait. I tried to starve out yeast and lost 6 lbs in 4 days. Had to stop.
Any ideas anyone.

Also have hypothyroidism/Hashimotos.
95.0 for me on Christmas eve day. I was down and out by 2:00pm.
Lately I have been running right at 96.4.
I was doing pretty well a few months ago and it was up to 97.6 but I crashed.
I was alway 97.6 for as long as I can remember (20+ years) till Sept 2003. I ran a fever of 102.5 with tylenol. It was ehrlichiosis, both types and babesiosis.
I hope it is gone now. Just started Ketek. I was on doxy for 4 months.
Been treated for 1 and 1/2 years now with lots of different stuff.
Two months off them, my temperature is finally normal again. Go figure.
then i started on low grade fevers for a few months.
now it's 96 - 97 for me on a daily basis so when my temp is up to 99, for me that is a fever!
and my hands and feet are very very cold - in fact, i developed Raynauds at the same time the lyme started.
very strange stuff.
The most fustrating thing with low temperature is coming down with a flu or other illness causing a fever, and trying to explain to a MD that a temperature of 98 degree is a fever, and 99 degree is high fever for me.
Yes.
Prior to Lyme, JC's temp was always a steady 98.6.
Now, it ranges between 95 and 97. Anything higher and he's feverish and herxing.
When he first started abx, his temp rose and stayed at a miserable 100+ for 2 months.
It was only after we started IV that it dropped.
He was off abx for 2 days around Christmas and had an instant and quite scary neuro and physical relapse.
His temp flew to 103 and he began shaking so hard we thought he might start convulsing. We avoided the ER but just barely.
Back on the abx he eventually returned to his 95-97 range.

Before being dxed with lyme, I was treated for what the doc thought was Wilson's thyroid.....didn't work.
I agree that our thyroids can get all screwed up with this illness so it's really important keep tabs on them and treat accordingly....

Typically in the 93-95 range in the morning.
Typically in the 95-97 range remainer of day and while sleeping.
It is well known that Bb doesn't like heat.
Steve Harris, MD, reported that in vivo experiments showed that Bb will die in a matter of 3 hours if kept at 103 deg.
Except in the cyst form...strike out again for us.

With treatment, my average temperature is consistantly at 98.0 to 98.6 again. I feel warmer! It was a VERY noticable change that happened somewhere toward the end of my first year of abx.
A recent thyroid test shows my TSH is back into normal range again, after being borderline high (hypothyroid) over 5 years of testing.
I never used thyroid meds since no doctor believed there really was a problem with my thyroid since it was "only" borderline high. UGGGH. Turns out I didn't need it in the end, but I think I just got lucky reversing the problem.
My body temp was very consistently 98.6 until I got Lyme.
My "normal" body temp now runs 96.3. If I do get to 98.6 now, I am flushed and feel "feverish".
I also know that when I'm in a flare of some kind - used to be my interstitial cystitis flares - that I would get daily low grade fevers that come & go at will.
Otherwise, I'm below normal...also hypothyroid.
I'm interested in what someone said in an earlier post that Bb doesn't like heat & that it will die at 103?
OK - now I'm not suggesting anyone try this - and I'm not saying I'm going to do it...but what if I were to shoot my hot tub temperature up to above 103 (to the max I can "handle") and try a little hot water therapy? Does anyone think that would do any good....provided I have a strong, competent adult that can pull my limp, heat exhausted body OUT of the hot tub (and call 911 if necessary)??
Back when I was in massage therapy school, I could swear I remember reading that is some kind of "valid" therapy - to give yourself a fever in an effort to kill a virus or bacteria. Any comments?
AND PLEASE don't try this if you don't know what you're doing...and NEVER alone....I'm not a doctor...just a fellow lymie... and a real big a$$!

This has been discussed extensively. Just do a search.
Generally, many list members do sauna and herx afterwards.
I do too. Don't know if it helps though. But I do feel bad afterwards, presumable due to killing a few Bb's. But I'm not really sure what's going on.
I know this. I can only stay in sauna for mas 20min. My pulse rockets up to 130. I get dizzy after 20min, and suddenly need to get out.
Hottub at 103 for 3 hours? Good luck if you can do that. I can imagine it will help, but you're also likely to hurt yourself.
I would be very careful with any sort of heat treatment.
Do some and get out as soon as you start feeling "dizzy" or what ever.
Michael
I will do some more research, AND I will most definitely wait until I get my cardiac clearance.

When i get out i always feel queasy and dizzy.
not sure if that's a herx or just a normal response to 105 degrees. But my husband seeems fine afterwards (he doesn't have lyme).
Since lyme (both before diagnosis and now, with 7 months antibiotics) I find myself very dizzy even taking a hot soak in my tub at night, and which I have done since I was a kid. Have to get out, drink tons of water, and lie down or I think I will faint.
She has recently been tested for viral infections and mycoplasma and had chest and adominal CT scans run, but all is normal. Positive WB for Lyme and positive Bartonella last January. She's been on orals since. If anyone has any ideas as to possible causes or suggestions for additional tests, I'd love to hear them and would be most appreciative. We are starting to feel deperate to get to the bottom of these fevers!

To my surprise, I've had 98.7 temps for the last week. No keg party here, but I still feel like I attended one.
When a 96.8 Lymie has a normal temp, could that indicate that they have a fever, even though they still read normal?
Do we redefine the parameters for Lymies?
I should also mention that my new Thyroid meds have been introduced simultaneously with the increase in temp.

Both of my children and my self. A temp of the normal 98.6 - 99 , and we feel like we have a major fever.
