I know that there is a possibility that I may have transfered something to her and now I am worried!!!!

Like I said she is totally healthy and normal right now. She has a 1 year well baby check next week. What should I bring up to her dr? Are there tests I should request now or wait? We see a military dr so not sure how much they are willing to investigate this right now.

I have three kids - two dxed with lyme and one we have not had tested. All three children were very healthy and developed right on track. The two with lyme were showing symptoms but not until they were a bit older. They started showing ADD like symptoms ironically when they both were in fourth grade (there is three years difference), but they were not dxed with lyme until this past year.

Cottiegirl is right however, I don't know if you can test a 1 year old and what results you would get. If I had known my daughter was born with this, I would have treated her ASAP. My lyme dx came last August, so I didn't know and my daughter was breast feed for 9 months.

My 8 year old has lyme (congenital) and she started having symptoms last September. Prior to that she did have stomach problems most her life so I have to wonder.

She has no learning disabilities, milestones early, and is at the top of her class.

Just happened to notice you and I live in the same state. If you say lyme they will argue with you and I wouldn't go there. I went all over the Denver area and Children's Hospital's rheumatologist said she had juenville arthritis.

Guess what I was told? Lyme doesn't exist in this state. Yeah right!

Even if she starts having symptoms, get her to an LLMD. There are new ones in Colorado who just opened last week and one of the docs has lyme and will take children.

Have you been to an LLMD?

Keep a watchful eye which I'm sure your already doing and don't worry to much!

Prior to a year, children with Lyme often (but not always) have chronic ear and sinus infections and throat problems, don't sleep well, and have difficulty getting comfortable.

If your child seems to be doing well I would take a deep breath, relax, be thankful and keep a watchful eye. Everything is most likely fine, but just be atuned to any abnormalities so if there is a problem you can nip it in the bud.

I think I was infected with lyme after I had my first child. That is when I started getting sick. Who really knows for sure though since I never saw a tick bite.

But I know I had it when I was pregnant with my son who is now 1.

When I saw my LLMD last october he said unless he is sick all the time with ear infections etc that I should not worry about it at this time. Just to keep an eye on him and if he starts getting excesively sick or having developmental problems then I should have him tested. But since he is perfectly healthy right now I should not worry about treating him right now.

He did say though that the odds that he has lyme is pretty good. Basically the lyme is probably dormant at this point if that makes sence.

All we can do as mothers is pray and wait.

I just wanted to add that there is a lot of disagreement amoung folks as to the liklihood of passing Lyme in utero, and I certainly do believe that it can happen. However, I do not think that you "probably passed it" as I am under the opinion that you are much more likely not to pass it in utero than to pass it that way.

That said, I would not feel overwhelmed with worry at this point, as the odds are in the favor of your little 1 year old! Just again, keep an eye out, but don't obsess as everything is probably ok and you are ahead of the game by just being aware of the possibilities

Many entire families test positive w/an accurate lyme test. This has happened in my family when the two youngest kids were about 7 and 10. Their mom was very on top of it and a person of action. She has had them to a LLMD and under treatment for the last two years. Things we attributed to 'normal' growing pains are gone . .. one had a wicked temper (lyme rage), another had eye problems, babesia was also present etc.

The good news is they are both having great lives. Their grandfather died of Alzheimer's but not before the Mom had him tested for lyme AND breifly treated. After years of Alzheimer's he actually came back enough to have a conversation with his daughter and grandaughter's who missed him terribly. We believe it has been passed from him to the whole family.

Realizing that this is an infectious disease where the bloodbanks do not check for it, we have no accurate tests the Dr's will acknowledge and it spreads the same as HIV, I'd say alot of us are carrying the bacteria by now.
