Hi All,
so far my ins. is saying it will only pay for 8 weeks of IV. I can get the powder from my doc and he will mix it and get me the other supplies for a huge fee. My question is this. Are there places I can get the other supplies, saline, heparin etc. cheaper?
If this is a scary question to answer in an open forum you can reply to my email.
I have to figure this out.
I am feeling like this is working and I need to continue to get better but unfortunatley I am not independently wealthy...yet!
Thanks.
Blessings,
Marblenose

Hi,
It's Rocephin and I am by no means wealthy but I make slightly more than allowed for aid which really puts me in the poor house!
So I will need Rocephin, salin, heparin and bandage change supplies.
I hope that helps!
Blessings,
Marblenose

I guess I don't understand why you would need or want the IV for longer than 8 weeks.

My doc wouldn't do it for longer because of the side-effects.

I did 8 weeks on IV Rocephin along with oral Biaxin XL for 8 weeks.

It was enough to get me over the top and make me better. My veins could barely take the 8 weeks anyway.

Maybe 8 weeks will be enough for you too!

Nancy:

8 weeks may be what your MD prescribed and believes to be the correct length of the protocol. But, many MDs will prescribe IV Rocephin for 4 weeks or for 16 weeks, even longer. Just depends on the MD and what he has seen in his patients' responses to the Rx.

I saw little/no improvement on my first 5 weeks of IV Rocephing. I actually felt like death. But, the 7 weeks following the first 5 were a huge improvement.

I did a second round of IV Roceph. for 16 weeks & saw even more improvement.

I only bring this up because we are all different and perhaps Marble's MD feels she/he needs longer treatment. It is not uncommon to do a longer than 8 week course of it.

Dear bc,
Thanks for the validation. My LLMD wants to keep it going 2 weeks at a time to move toward improvement. The deal is I have had this for 10 years untreated so I imagine it will take awhile to get better.
I send you all love and light.
Blessings,

I had 13 weeks of IV rocephin and I fought with my insurance company EVERY day to keep it! My first 3 weeks or so on rocephin I thought I was going to DIE. I herxed so bad from day 4 to the 3rd week it was horrible. After that I began to improve and little by little I got better.
I ended up getting my State Representative, Insurance commissioner and my Lawyer to write letters to get the medication my doctor felt I needed. I believe that had I not had that 13 weeks of IV rocephin I would not be alive today to tell about it. I was just that sick when I finally found out what was going on.
Your doctor needs to show some improvement at each visit and also state at each visit that he feels strongly that you need the extra every how many weeks it is and why. He will also need information supportting the need of IV antibiotic's over orals.
Like I said I fought daily for 3 months to keep my IV. I think I finally barked so much and constently called them until they decided to just leave me alone and let me get well so I would shut up.
I know then I did not have the energy nor did I feel like battling my insurance but I had to do it for my life at that time. If your insurance is not a self funded insurance complain to your state insurance commissioners office and they will have to answer the commissioner as to why they are going against your doctors strong recommendations!
That is just a few of the things I did that helped me get my 3 plus months of IV therapy that has helped me get back to 80 to 85% of what I should be.
Keep fighting and get someone to help fight for you it is worth it! I am living proof.
