Does anyone know anyhting about IV Zithromax. I know it's done from some limited research, but would like to know how well it works, can it be used through a PIC line, is it harder on you than Rocephen. I have a history of ulcers and stomach problems and would like to avoid as much stomach involvement as possible particularly antibiotics since they have been a problem in the past. I am on IV Rocephen for over a year now and while I am less sick than I was, my neuro symptoms seem to be getting worse, including mini seizures and many other problems I won't bore you with mostly neuro. Would like to switch to Zithromax and see if it works any better. Would also like to start Mepron since I am pretty sure I have Babs and possible toxoplasmosis.

Hi,

I was on IV Zithro for about two months in 2002 after four months of IV Rocephin. I did it with a picc line but I had to run it fairly slowly so I wouldn't get nauseous (if I ran it at the recommended speed, I would get pretty nauseous).

I'm not sure if it helped me because the Rocephin had already helped me to a point and I also went through having my gallbladder out (result of the Rocephin) while on the Zithromax. It can be done, though.

There are also other IV antibiotics that can be considered. Vancomycin (a pretty harsh and powerful one, or so I've been told) and Primaxin are the two I've heard of being used more and more.

But, if you're trying to treat Babesia with zithro and mepron, it's definitely doable to do IV Zithro.

I hope this helped you. My brain is kind of all over the place tonight so I'm not sure I'm thinking that coherently. Hopefully I made some sense for you!

Peace and healing,
Annie

IV Zithromax is great stuff. It worked awesome for me for 6 months and then I switched to oral zithromax at 1200 mg/day along with Mepron and artemesia.

The only side effect to IV Zithromax is a ringing in the ears that goes away in time.
It is not painful, just annoying, but well worth it to do the IV Zithro, it works really well.

Good luck!

IV zithromax was the abx that I found helped me the most (over many orals and iv rocephin or another that i've forgotten), in my case it got rid of my ringing in the ears but i am always a little different than the norm, lol.

I used the little bottles so I didn't have to worry about the drip time, but i know what Arg is saying, it was a much longer infusion than the others.

Good luck.

I do I.V. zith. It takes about an hour for an infusion. I tried it orally along with flagyl, but couldn't handle both on the digestive tract. I also take I.V. flagyl 4 days a week which makes me nauseous. I have major diarrhea (gross, I know) and I can't tell if it is the zith or the flagyl. Although, I think it is probably both, because on the days I don't take flagyl I still have the problem.

I have been on this combo for a month after trying orals for 4 months. I think I am seeing an improvement in that I am not as tired, but I still have seizures and very weak legs.

I would be interested in hearing about your mini-seizures as I have them, too. Do you get a funny feeling in your head like you are about to fall down or go into a dizzy spell? Anyway, God bless and good luck.

I just finished 12 wks of iv zith.
It improved my symptoms signifigantly.
My LLMD said I plateaued, so I start new meds next week.

I took lots of ultra flora with the zith, and infused slowly. I was very pleased with how this drug worked for me.

I wish you well!
