Mystery Illness Baffles Doctors; Frustrates Patients

POSTED: 7:43 pm PST February 6, 2005
UPDATED: 8:19 pm PST February 6, 2005

SAUSALITO -- Is an unknown disease hitting the Bay Area or is it just a case
of mass delusion? If you ask intensive care nurse Cindy Casey she'll tell
you that the mystery disease is very real and very painful.

Casey is one of at least 150 Bay Area residents battling the illness that is
characterized by lesions and strange string-like fibers.

"It sounds really strange, it's kind of understandable why people don't
believe us, because it sounds so weird," Casey said. "The lesions start out
as bumps that are itchy, little round raised bumps. The fibers are quite
alarming."

When she turned to doctors for help, her frustrations began to mount. Casey
said dermatologists at her own hospital suggested she was mentally ill.

"It sounds so bizarre to them that they take the quick way out and say this
can't be, you've got to be delusional or making this up," she said.

Susan Bishop of Santa Rosa has a similar story.

"It's the overall pain I have every day, my joints hurt," she said. "

For some, the pain and frustration simply gets to be too much. That was the
case, friends and family say, for Dillon King of Soquel. Last month, friends
and family eulogized the 37-year-old former medical assistant after he
committed suicide.

"It was really so depressing the hardest thing was seeing him just get worse
all the time," said Wendy Augason, King's mother.

King's fiance -- Elizabeth Strong -- says she's certain he picked up some
kind of weird infection and that she's now beginning to show the same
symptoms.

"It started as a small sore and kept spreading," she said. "I had doctors
tell me that basically, it was delusional, then because it was the two of us
with it we were feeding on each other, and egging each other on."

KTVU broke this story last year and now we've learned more than 1,200 people
nationwide say they have the same skin lesions and bizarre fibers.
Ironically, most are in the medical profession. Adults as well as children
have it and it may be contagious.

Evidence is beginning to mount linking this syndrome to Lyme Disease from
tick bites.

"The population of people with Lyme Disease believe this is another
infection that travels with the Lyme organism," said Dr. Jennifer Choate, a
hematologist who helped treat Dillon. "It makes sense because it is in that
group we are seeing this pattern."

Marin microbiologist Jenny Haverty has also be studying the mystery malady.

"I accepted specimens from four different people in four different counties
in the Bay Area, and I looked at them very carefully over and over again
under the microscope," she said. "The colors and shapes of the fibers of
each individual were very, very similar."

Tests on similar fibers taken from Bishop's skin and those of several other
patients in the Bay Area show them to be tiny tubes of protein. But how and
why the filaments are formed remains a mystery for now.

Do Salt & C
Do Sputnik (three times)
Do Arise and Shine
Do colonics
Do Bitricide
Do Intestinal Cleanses - Your doctor should know about a few different ones that work well. If he doesn't, you need to get one that knows. These are one of the most important therapies you can do.

Do KMT22 (covers all rife and microbial inhibitory frequencies - all Lyme and co-infection related, which means practically every chronic disease. It works incredibly well; for MCS also.)

You have to get rid of the big ones, before you can get at the small ones.

I am going out on another limb waiting to be shot down by some people: with absolute certainty, anyone that has Lyme and co-infections, has parasites plenty and has heavy metal toxicity and most likely some dental infections that have not been uncovered yet, because most of them do not really hurt. The viruses are also in overload and have to be addressed.

I posted yesterday one of the reasons the bugs are taking over. Environment. Please read it.

Do not take O R A L Vitamin B complex. You are feeding the worms and parasites - and you get the leftovers, if any. These are in most of the multi vitamin preparations. Don't.

Eat food that contains them - take enzymes to absorb your food, any digestive aids.

Pipli - an ayurvedic I have posted about works well for absorption - it has been tested and it increases absorption 6-fold - also abx and other drugs.

I have a ton of others on my mind. But have some work to do now.

Take Care.

P.S. My husband and I have done every single remedial I listed above. Before, and while, and after we cleaned up our teeth, and did a metal detox lasting several years. You can get well also.

What is sputnik?
Jane

Jane, I posted on Sputnik several times a year and recently there was another discussion here. Do a search. Sputnik? - it can't get any easier to send some parasites packing! Lots of people I know have done Sputnik and got surprises.

Take care.

I had this horrid skin thing...had no idea what the heck those fibers sticking out of my skin were...tried pulling one out and it hurt like crazy. The itching drove me mad.

Someone posted about Morgellons and when I went to the website...there it was in pictures!

With treatment for lyme & babs it seems to have gone away, although I occasionally have itchy stinging places break out...no more fibers.

Seems t me that when this info first came out, someone on Lymenet said it was a hoax. Am I wrong?

Anyway, I often get lesions on my face that have a tiny whitish-yellowish 'seed' inside. Sesme seed size. Sometimes it will pop out whole and the healing is much easier. Other times it causes stinging. I've wondered what these "seeds" were and hope I'm not headed for worse things...

I dont know about this...Its possible but not soe easytoe beleieve...

Why can't someone do a punch biopsy and take close look at whats going on. If I had these things this is what I would want done.

Is it possible that the meds are reacting with the fluids in the sebatious glands to produce some type of polymer?

With heavy med doses you can give off a odd odour. It might be the meds directly or it might be the result of some chemical cascade in the body. If this happens then something is making out through the skin and might react with the oxygen one exposed..

Just a thought.

I remember Dr. K. mentioning at one of the seminars I attended that one of the results of a parasite looks like a sesame seed. I can't remember the name of the parasite. He talked about the sesame seeds appearing in the stool.

Don't panic - don't worry. He also says anyone eaten in a restaurant has parasites. He told of some testing on kitchen employees hands and fingernails resulting in some 20 different species.

We also know that we need some of the good parasites. But the balance has to be brought back. If we have too many of the bad kind, our nutrients are lost and there is little left for us. That's also the reason for the no oral B-vitamin recommendation. We don't want to help them multiply more.

Let's face it - we all have them - some worse. If you have Lyme Disease, assume that you have an overabundance of some. There are not many lab tests that can verify it. ART testing with a certain test kit that contains every creature known to man today, can pin things down more clearly.
Other than that, a cleanse will help toward health and will prolong life for certain.

I am now quite old and feel sooooo good - I can't tell you how good. It really pays getting rid of this stuff that should not be in us. I did not like my suffering years, neither did my husband. But in a way I am very thankful that it helped me to clean out what I had not purposely accumulated and I feel so much better for it. It not only wiped out my horrible Lyme, pain, but it also took the mood swings from metals, the depression on and off that I had no reason or explanation for; the hypoglycemic swings with the lows and the highs, all is a thing of the past. I thought I was basically a happy person. No, I was sick before Lyme. I just didn't know it.

I don't understand these expressions of "uggh" and horror. Why? - it's our own body, and we can do something about it.

Take care.

Hey fish boy. How 'ya doin these days?

Thanks a zillion for posting this! Its time sufferers of this disease received a little credibility.

When I clicked on the chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia above, an e-mail that began with "Dear Victoria" and had no message, to someone named Victoria Slopes, appeared on my screen. Without my pressing send, it went through automatically.

Please explain. Yes, I'm being paranoid, and now this Victoria person has my e-mail address, which I never give out.

Biting Back is a REAL sufferer..I have met her in person.

If you trust me...then you can trust her.

She is a filiarial worm sufferer.

Lyddie,

No need to apologize. I think we all feel this way to varying degrees.

Trout, in the article you quoted:

"Tests on similar fibers taken from Bishop's skin and those of several other
patients in the Bay Area show them to be tiny tubes of protein. But how and
why the filaments are formed remains a mystery for now."

From my first link (watch for the tiny tubes of protein):

"1. Pili (fimbriae) (def)

As seen in the previous section, pili enable some organisms to adhere to receptors on target host cells (see Fig. 1) and thus colonize and resist flushing by the body. Pili are thin, protein tubes originating from the cytoplasmic membrane and are found in virtually all gram-negative bacteria but not in many gram-positive bacteria.

The pilus has a shaft composed of a protein called pilin. At the end of the shaft is the adhesive tip structure having a shape corresponding to that of specific glycoprotein or glycolipid receptors on a host cell (see Fig. 2).

Because both the bacteria and the host cells have a negative charge, pili may enable the bacteria to bind to host cells without initially having to get close enough to be pushed away by electrostatic repulsion.

Once attached to the host cell, the pili can depolymerize and enable adhesions in the bacterial cell wall to make more intamate contact.

Bacteria are constantly losing and reforming pili as they grow in the body and the same bacterium may switch the adhesive tips of the pili in order to adhere to different types of cells and evade immune defenses (see Fig. 3). "

Once again...this is nothing new...basic microbiology.
