Now, however, we are just seeing a bit of an amplification of some symptoms (joint pain, headache), but at the same time she seems a bit better as far as night sweats. Also, her appetite seems better. Does this contradiction make sense?

Another thing, she seems much more emotional and clingy since starting abx. For the first time since she's been sick she would not leave me to go to preschool this week (which she normally LOVES). Does that seem in keeping with possible herx?

How long might her herx last if she was infected this summer, but really didn't show major symptoms until December? And what should I do as far detox with her since she's so young?

When I started I felt MUCH better for 2-3 days and then SLAM. Unfortunately I didnt really feel any relief for about 5 weeks after that.

That initial battle with the spiroketes, trying to kill them off and herxing out all the toxins. It really just a waiting game.

Sorry to say, there is no way to know how long a herx reaction might last. Some are short lived, and some can go on for a long time. More commonly they tend to come and go, sometimes in regular patterns, or in random ones.

The emotional clinginess is a common herx sign in young children (and some of us older ones, too!) It can be caused by irritation to the nervous system, or just be a response to the uncomfortableness of other symptoms.

Make sure your daughter drinks plenty of water, to keep flushing things through. Some people use children's apsirin or children's benedryl to help with herxing. Ask your doctor if this would be appropriate to help your daughter.

Are you giving her a good quality probiotic? This is very important to prevent yeast infections from complicating things. Give them several hours after the dose of antibiotics, so that the antibiotics don't kill them all.

Hopefully there will be some other moms along soon with more specifics for the little ones. I'm a mom still, but my baby is pretty huge. He was probably infected with Lyme when he was little, but we didn't find it till he was 24.

Believe me, you are fortunate to be treating this so early in the infection. It may take some time, but you will save yourself and your daughter from much worse if it was not treated. Good work!!!!
