I've had my PICC in for 6 weeks now and although the Rocephin is helping lots the PICC line is driving me insane with regards to itching. I clearly have an allergy to the tape / dressings they are using and they have tried all diffrent types. The itching is 10 times worse of that than Posion Ivory. I tried all the off the shelf products also. Does anyone have any ideas that may be of help.
If I can't get this to stop, I will be requesting they remove the PICC next week so I can begin to heal the site, It is filled with hives and puss like bumps. The nurse doesn't seem to worry much about it but she isn't living with it.
Thanks in advance King regards Jeannine

What kind of antiseptic is used to clean the skin when you have dressing changes. That may be part of the problem. I don't remember the brand name the nurse uses, but it makes my skin itch. She says it is best at killing germs, though.
I have found the only dressing I can stand is Tegaderm by 3M.
I'll just pray the rocephin works so fast you won't need the picc line much longer.
By the way, do you take actigall with the rocephin to prevent gallstones. Just curious as I think that will be the next drug I use.

There's a dressing I used called SorbaView 2000 that was the least itchy of all the dressings I tried. I have very sensitive skin. My hospital nurse gave it to me but it is made by Centurion Healthcare Products, P. O. Box 170, Howell, MI 48844 USA tel. 800 248-4058 and website www.tshc.com and maybe you could order it.
Also, have you tried putting a block of ice, like blue ice (wrapped in plastic) over your arm? That controlled itching the best for me.
I hope you get some relief.

I had mine pulled for this. When it's pussy and ozzing, the bandage wont stick properly, and this can then gap and let in germs. You cant risk this for infection. Let alone the itching.
