I've had Hasimnoto's thyroidits for 15 years (I suspect it came with the Lyme which got diagnosed Igenex style last October). I'm on i.v. rocephin (fourth month) and now having trouble swallowing. Does anyone have any clues? at first I thought it was the supplements I am taking - all the Bs and MSM, turmeric for inflammation, etc etc but I just woke up wtih it and had trouble getting a glass of water down... A bit scary - our emerg department is overwhelmed (so badly that's it's in the news) and I don't want to sit there for seven hours and pick up c. dificle (which is what I got last time I visited the hospital). thoughts gratefully received.. ontariojane

Hi Jane, Unfortunately this is yet another of the symptoms of Lyme that will wax and wane.
I believe it has something to do with the nerves that control swallowing...some smarter folks will put you onto a thread somewhere.
I would'nt worry too much about it however while it's happening be careful you don't get something lodged in your airway.
You might want to do a search on swallowing and you'll probably get all you need cuz this is a common problem for all of us from one time or another.
ps the C-diff you spoke of may have come from your abx use and not using enough probiotics..........................zman

Hi Lyme Tony - thanks! I have turned into the probiotics Queen since I lost 8 pounds in 4 days with c. dif - man oh man I wouldn't wish that experience on the worst duck (well, maybe on of them, but you know what i mean)... thanks for the comforting message though - I get scared now and then (more now than then) because I am the only *known* Lyme patient in my city. ontariojane

Maybe not, maybe just a herx from lyme in the throat area. I have throat issues, they were really bad, almost lost the abiltiy to swallow, then went back on antibiotics and within a few days was much better.
Just in case it is a yeast overgrowth, watch for other symptoms of yeast. it is a cesaphlorin, the rocephin, and I think it is easier to get yeast overgrowth for some.
I have noticed that if my yeast gets really out of hand, my throat can act up, wether or not this is actually yeast overgrowth in the throat, or the yeast bringing down my immune system making the lyme worse.

Hi,
I meant to tell you, that a few years ago, I had mucsle problems in this area and food would get stuck in esphogus and they found spasms on test. I also had nerve pain in throat area the other day and my throat is still not down to what it was.

this is a neuro system of lyme effecting one of the cranial nerves probably 8 or 9 it is very common for lyme to attach peripheral and cranial(main) nerves in the body. 5th cranial people get lymes 7th cranial teeth,jaw,ear,'tongue 8th&9th esophagus, stomach some people on the lymenet say this might be babesia i don't know but it will come and go with treatment and the length of the lyme disease. longer disease more nerve involvement and more btain function damage

I have had trouble swallowing, but never with just water. If you can't get anything down I would still go to ER.
