I hate to suggest the obvious...or to appear to be a smarta$$...well, not really...
But Lenny honey - have you considered seeing a doc?
I know there are plenty of great self-helf remedies out there & I'm usually the one favoring those over dragging my fat a$$ to the doc...again. BUT...
Please don't sit at home self-treating a cough that won't go away when you already have a disease that causes you to be immunosuppressed already. You don't need to come down with bronchitis or pneumonia and then some ER duck wants to shoot you full of steroids...which are IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS.
You have now been chastised by DR Wiseass...now that didn't hurt at all, did it? Now how 'bout a lollypop?

My congestion was from candida.
SF722 really helped, but it took about 2 solid weeks of using it to get the stuff up,
and when I did, I also had a fever and coughing like unreal!
I had to take 12 SF722's a day to get it up though. I had horrid dieoff of candida, but it was worth it to get that stuff up.
I know the fever was just my immune system kicking in to get it out.
SF722 is an antifungal put out by Thorne Research. YOu can take up to 15 a day I have heard. My old ND told me to stick to 12 a day, 4 caps 3 times a day.

You can purchase a blue box of Mucinex at CVS for $20. Try Wal-Mart?? This is actually "pure guaifenesin" which is usually prescription.
You must drink plenty of water to make it work.
I know for a fact the RX guaifenesin actually turns thick mucous into the consistency of water. No lie.
My son who has chronic asthmatic bronchitis was prescribed this with every bout of bronchitis for his entire life. It was an astounding med.
[BTW, I'm just thankful the "dangerous form" of RX Guafenesin which contained additives didn't kill him. Asthma meds alone increase the heart rate.]
The problem is many of the guaifenesin RX also add something EXTRA which causes bad side effects (like increased heart rate/stroke...., can't remember).
Anyway, you might consider calling the Doc for a RX of the safe form of "guaifenesin only" & if you have insurance------well, the co-pay may be less than the cost of over-the-counter, Mucinex.
Do you have any NAC in the house? It will break up mucous, also.
For new readers: The amino acid, NAC
(N-acetyl cysteine) is also a great liver detoxifier & builds glutathione levels-----which you probably already know.
Don't get plain Cysteine); It's like a brillo pad for your arteries.
I've been using the inexpensive NOW brand of NAC which contains selenium & molybdenum aiding in the conversion to glutathione.
Get well.

I, myself, am a veritable snot volcano, but have never come up with a corn nut...I had no idea that was where those came from... whole new meaning for expectorate.
I may not eat them any more. Could you cough up something useful?? Vise grips maybe??

I just polished of a bottle of that yesterday. I think it helped. But I'm not all the way there. I just got back from the Doc and the said I probably have the Flu and or the beginning of Walking pneumonia. Which I believe. I had it about 7 years ago and it feel the same. The Gave me Zithromax and Histussin HC Syrup. We'll see how it works. I see alot of people here on on Zithromax. What does it treat here? Lyme, Babesia...?
See if the cough syrup is an expectorant? If not, your Doc may still prescribe some Guaifenex???? Don't know.
Zithromax (intra-cellular) alone is for LD which was my first ABX. (They ususally add in Flagyl or cystbuster later on).
Mepron & Zithromax & herbal ArtemISIN is for Babesia.
If you keep having recurrent chest problems, you might want to get treated for Babesia. One life cycle for Babs according to my new LLMD is 4 months----so you'd need at least 4 months??
Babs can cause chest problems. You can also have a pretty-much silent Babesia infection.......just a thought.
My husband gets pleurisy very bad when he's run down. He just started LD treatment.
Just a FYI:
Pre-lyme diagnosis: According to blood test had mycoplasma pneumoniae (Low count) which is walking pneumonia. But had no cough-----more like a very mild case of pleurisy because it kind of hurt when I breathed in.
I was given 10 days of Levaquin for m. pneumoniae.
Hope this helps.
Take Care,
Jan
You asked what Zithromax treated?
Zithromax & Levaquin is only one combination to treat Bartonella. There are a few different combos.
I know it takes at least 2 meds taken together to kill Bartonella.
I'm doing Minocycline 200 mg a day in preparation for treatment of Bartonella next month. Having tons of die-off with Mino after almost 2 years of treatment for neuro lyme.
She talked about adding Levaquin-----depending on ability to tolerate it; herxing & all that.
My favorite Lymenet quote:
"If the specific disease has not been targeted yet, then it will continue to cause problems."
Bye.

I also coughed up a John Tesh CD...so I guess it wasn't useful.

Anyways, I had pneumonia last month. It wasnt fun and took two weeks to go away.. and oddly
it went away on DIFLUCAN. Not so oddly, because I marched back to my doctors office before I touched teh diflucan after the antibiotic made me sick
and demanded my spit be cultured.
I had fungal pneumonia.
Be careful.

Fungal Pneumonia
Primary fungal pneumonia is caused most commonly by Blastomyces dermatitidis, Histoplasma capsulatum, or Coccidioides immitis and less commonly by Sporothrix schenckii or Cryptococcus, Aspergillus, or Mucor sp (see Ch. 158). Fungal pneumonia may be a complication of antibacterial therapy, especially in patients with altered host defense mechanisms due to illness or immunosuppressive therapy.

Hmm?
of course since I've got that whole bladder disease thing happening, I'm not gonna alert the media about it.
But Charlie & Lenny - honestly - I think I laughed so hard I almost snorted.
Hey, can I use the phrase "hacking up a corn nut & John Tesh CD" AND "snot volcano" ...sometime in my blog? That's some funny s***. Naturally, I'll give you credit.
OK - well wishing you speedy recovery & dry nasal passages.
