Does anyone have problems with menstrual irregularities?

I had to get put on birth control pills several years ago because I would always start my period five days early every month. This would cause me to have two periods in one month sometimes, which was completely exhausting. The birth control completely helped. Well, for the past 6-8 months, I have had some spotting in between periods, so they switched my pills. That helped a little, but now my periods are heavier and last longer. This exhausts me because I have little energy as it is. I have thought about taking Seasonale, which lets you only have 4 periods a year. Does anyone have any suggestions or any opinions on this new birth control?

Thanks for any help!!!!

hey crazy,
My peroids were very irregular with 2 weeks of spotting before until I got my adrenal and tyroid hormones normalized.

LD can attack thee adrenal and thyroid, as welll as pituitary, messing up normal cycles.

You might want to ask your LLMd abt testing for theses things.

My sister in law is on the dip-something or another

It's the shot you get every couple of months

It keeps you from getting your period. I think she goes a year w/out one

Hi
I have had my share of female hormone probs..
i have had absent cycles for a number of years, and just started in the past year getting them back.
lyme does throw the HPA off in many patients.
iw ould encourage you to read "What, no periods?" about the shot, it is not healthy to not have them...
have you done any adrenal or thyroid testing?

Menstrual irregularities began about a year after the tick bite that almost did me in. Super heavy menstrual flow . . . more like mini-hemorrhages every month.

It's been my personal experience that birth control pills exacerbate lyme disease.

Excellent timiing on this question- I was just wondering if lyme was to blame for the irregularities I've been experiencing.

Thanks, Tree- that should keep me busy the rest of the day!

My period has never been right. The only time I was normal was when on the pill as a teenager, but wouldn't touch the pill now for personal reasons also 33 and it gets more dangerous as you get older.

I get it every 3 weeks for the last 10 years. Flow for 8-9 days. Lyme has caused me to have lots of clotting so bad, I have been to the doctor and said, hey, I am giving mini-births over here. I have a uterus with cysts and a small fibroid. it has also changed in flow several times. This months just past had less flow and clotting, but last months the clotting was very bad.

My lyme always get worse around this time as well. The sicker I am the worst it is, where I thought, this is it. Some of my worst neuro symptoms during my period, where had polyneruopathy so bad, I thought I would die. Hormones are seriously affected by lyme as well, have had overactive thyroid and feel I had underactive thyroid for years, even though wouldn't show on tests, or docs just wouldn't test for it.

Some of the first symptoms, after the flu like stuff I have noticed can be menstrual and stuff like cysts and cystic breasts. A year after tic bites I had breast full of cysts, hormone imbalance and period troubles again.

I have no idea if this will get better with treatment or if months things aren't as bad if this is a good sign or not.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help on this. I had a normal thyroid test last year. The birth control pills have never made me feel bad, so I do not mind being on them.

Has anyone had good luck with birth control pills helping with all these issues?

I was infected in early puberty, so I have no idea what normal would be. But I started spotting about 6 months after my acute symptoms started a couple years ago.

Medications and supplements can also cause changes. I've had much heavier flow since starting Artemisinin, and lots more spotting. I've also heard that soy can cause longer menstruation periods, because of the estrogen.

I have had lyme since before puberty, so my periods were never very normal either. Birth control pills helped regulate them and lighten the cycle each month. Unfortunately, all these changes started last year before I got back on the abx for lyme. I just started IV therapy again about 2 weeks ago. My LLMD recommended Seasonale. I am going to talk about it further this week. They said it was not necessary to have a period every month, so I hope this helps.
