I've been in touch with a dr. in northwest florida who uses 1-2 days a week of antibiotics. She says the every day thing just puts the lyme in hiding, and when you stop the abx, they come out worse.

Has anyone tried this pulsing method, and if so, how has it worked for you?

Thanks!

Hi angie,

May i respectfully suggest that you find yourself a more lyme literate physician who will give you complete treatment. your doctors assertion that daily use of abx forces the bacteria into 'hiding' isn't quite the case, rather, the bacteria change shape (to cyst form) to elude the abx, then, change back when the blood titer is relaxed. you need a doctor that will treat you with several medications, each specific to the individual form of bacteria.

In addition to finding a truly knowledgeable doctor, you need to do some massive research. start with the links that a poster called 'tincup' has provided for new members.

btw, what you or your doctor is refering to as pulsing, isn't the same definition of the method of pulsing that I learned. Check out tincups info.

May there be gravy for us all!

I tried pulsing Zithromax and thought it worked well for me. Not only did it give my body a break, it zapped some Lyme bacteria.

I did 3 weeks on and 1 week off. Upon resuming my course of antibiotics I had a mild Herxheimer reaction. And this was good thing.

The theory behind pulsing antibiotics is to give the Lyme bacteria a chance to re-emerge from hiding after you stop taking the antibiotics. Then you get a chance to zap them when you resume taking your medication.

As to what regimen to follow when you pulse depends on your doctor, your symptoms, and your antibiotic. There are many different variations. I pulsed monthly but some people here have pulsed weekly.

Angie,

Yes, make sure you get a LYME LITERATE MD!

I'm on MORE than diflucan, 100 mg, which I started every OTHER day 2-05!

biaxin xl 100/day for 3 days; 2 days off;

doxycycline, 200/day for 3 days; 2 days off;

then start the pulsing biaxin over again; been doing this since 8-04 my 1st appt. ...

Since 9-04, been on benicar 20 mg/day until 2--05 when benicar was raised to 40 mg/day since my diabetis micral/urine was really high so dosage was increased then.

I've been misdiagnosed for 34 yrs. before my 7-04 dx!

Thank you Ping and Linda. Ping, what does it mean when you say "when the blood titer is relaxed"?

Thanks Betty - How are you doing now?

Angie,

A different Linda hee. My family also pulses. Although we want to treat the children according to Dr. J's method.

My husband and i take one zithro a month. Just a pill. We try to herx appart so someone can take care of the children.

We have to keep our jobs--this allows us to do that--although we have talked about hitting one adult hard and then the other.

We are are taking Elmiron now with the zith and are due for flagal this summer. My husband has been treated for two years--me for one year.

Hope that helps a little.
Linda

hi angie, it means when the level of the abx in the bloodstream drops to low enough concentration. ping

Angie, "how am I doing"? I see NO improvements so far, but I didn't expect much since my lyme has progressed for 34 years without being treated correctly.

I'm NOT bed ridden so I have so much to be thankful for. Little energy. Herxing quite bad.

Worst since Nov. has been this awful pain in my right side of neck & shoulder area since I got my NOIR, no infrared/UV sunglasses reducing my vitamin D thru the eyes.

Best wishes to all. Betty G.

Betty. I have ben on the full dose Benicar [MP] for 9 months, All symptoms gone, I take 40mg every 6 hours. My wife is on Benicar and mino. She does 20mg every 4 hours, is doing great. A few times she forgot to take it and she got worse. Supposedly if you go longer than 8 hours, of benicar, you loose the blockade and it does not work as well. We also, use Quercitin 500mg 3 times a day. Suppose to help herx. Several times my wife had a bad herx, I gave her an extra benicar and it gor much better.

Correct me if I am wrong: pulsing idea is based on assumption that spirochete needs 3 days to be able to produce spores or cysts.
So accordingly, short breaks such as 3 days or less shouldn't endanger effective treatment... as long this assumption is true.

Any more comments?
