In the 1990's my lyme symptoms were dormant or in remission. Then I was in two car accidents within months of each other and lyme symptoms started about two weeks after the first plus exacerbated after accident number 2.

It's now 6 years later, no settlement yet but the defence council has required me to attend an independent medical exam this coming week.

Should I be explaining lyme to this physician (a neurologist) or just let him examine me?

Anyone had an IME and how independent is it?

Go and do not say anything. Answer in limited replies only. Everything you say will BE USED against you as to limit your treatment.

Your lyme has nothing to do with your car accidents as far as the defense or this physician is concerned. That physician's job is to make you look like you are faking. Do not feed into this.

You must go to the appointment because that is what you have to do for your part of the suit.

If you attempt to educate him you may give the defense a way out of the suit.

Forget you have lyme, you are now someone who has been injured in a car accident. Play the game so you can win your suit.

Some IME docs are awful and will give you a very unfavourable IME. If that happens the appeals process is an absolute nightmare and you would have to get your own IME and get a lawyer. I'd still recommend you get a lawyer.

I'm not familiar with laws in your state but your likely on a Tort system for car insurance unless your under no fault PIP.
