Has anyone taken this?

Can there be side effects?

My sister was put on this for a underlying

bacteria infection by her doctor.

She has had flu like symptoms since she

started taking this.

Could this be killing the bad bacteria

and causing a toxin?

Or is there any side effects to this?

She also has the cysts and I told her she

needed to check into lyme because she

used to hunt alot.

I've been treated for Lyme for a year now.....I also have yeast over growth and now being tested for babs.....I take acidolphilus every day....really seems to help with the yeast infections....I don't ever think I've had any side effects from it....take care of your sister and make sure she's getting the right treatment.....this Lyme Disease is a serious and complicated disease....God bless you

If she is having a reaction after taking acidophillus, she many be having a yest die off. I dealt with yeast long before lyme....die offs can be very similar (although not as intense as Lyme). A good web site is www.yeastconnection.com There is a questionairre there to help see if you have a problem with yeast. Also dietary suggestions. Sugar cravings, low blood sugar, vaginal yeast, fingernail fungus, ect. can all be signs....
(Just a note....yeast or Candida has real implications for kids....so many kids diagnosed with ADHD or ADD have yeast issues...)

Generally speaking -

When antibiotics are taken, they kill the good bacteria along with the bad bacteria.
When the good bacteria in the digestive system are killed, yeast growth increases & fills the spaces. This overgrowth of yeast causes Candida, which is usually treated with Diflucan or Nizoral.
("Coping with Lyme Disease" by Denise Lang. pages 205-206)

To prevent a systemic yeast infection,
acidophilus is given to replenish the good bacteria in the digestive system.

I am not aware of any side effects.

Since it is "good bacteria" & not an antibiotic, then I don't know why it would be given for a bacterial infection.

Has your sister been tested for Lyme disease?

It depends on the brand, quality, and dosage of the acidophilus.

Most high quality refrigerated brands of acidophilus seem to be ok for mosy people. I did have an allergic reaction (hives) to one of the non-refrigerated brands - not sure if the temp. factor is just a coincidence. Also, check to see if there are any additives like preservatives.

As for dosage, my nutritionist had me on about 30 billion a day and I can tell you that I had the runs from that. Once I reduced the disage the runs cleared up.

For the most part, it is harmless and necessary to replace gut flora.

She was told to get this for a female

bacteria infection. She has cervical

dysplasia. Her pap is at a 4 and was

told it could be a bacteria. No std's.

Can lyme effect the female organs?

Absolutely! I had extensive damage to my female organs from Lyme. Had to have a complete hysterectomy years ago due to extensive endometriosis and fibroid tumors.

I was a mess.

Acidophillus is not a medically prescribed item, unfortunately.

Why they would tell your sister she needed that for cervical dysplasia is beyond me.

But no, it wont hurt her.
