well ive been on amox for about 2.5 months now at aproxx 12,000 mg per 24 hrs!! an extremly high dose, i have not treally felt much better though , and recently i have been gettin hit with extremly debilitating fatigue throughout the day. any ideas on whats going on , I have been taking acidolphilous and trying to eat good and steer clear of alchohl.Im going crazy!!

Hey Big Lenny..

Sorry to hear you are so exhausted. Could it possibly be yeast? Yes, acidolophlis is nice.. and needed.. BUT..

Unless you KILL the yeast (Nystatin, diflucan)... and amoxy can allow a good yeast infection to get going... you will have effects from it.

Another thought.. Some times, some medications just don't work for some people. I do believe I could drink Rocephin for 45 years and I still would be no better off than I was before I started.

I can't say it is a herx... cause I don't know. I can say with amoxy I also got VERY tired... and don't know if it helped me or not.

Wish I had a MUCH better answer for you. But maybe these are some things to consider??

Hi Big Lenny,

I bet Tincup is right. Amoxicillin or any of the penicillins are notorious for causing severe yeast problems, very quickly.

The newest RX drug for yeast is:

Voriconazole

Some take Fungal Defense or Primal Defense if you want to go natural. I've used Oil of Oregano tablets called "A.D.P." by Biotics Research Corp. from the health food store.

The "wild oregano" is suppose to be the best form.

You actually have to kill the yeast and then replace with a strong probiotic.

Hope you find out the root cause of the fatigue. Systemic yeast can cause overwhelming fatigue.

Hi, Big Lenny.

I was on amox the first six months I was sick, and it did not work. That doesn't mean it won't work for you! But if you aren't showing improvement, maybe it would help to know this abx didn't help everyone.

Also, I have two co-infections. That might have something to do with it.
