I know I'm not alone with this symptom. But my ear sometimes gets really warm and turns bright red. I can actually feel the heat, as if it was sunburned...even on the inside.

Anyone know what the actual cause is? I'm looking for an answer more in depth than "lyme" or "babs." I want to know the actual mechanism of what's going on.

Check your blood pressure. My ears were on fire when my pressure was through the roof.

I have a few answers but it may not be the one you are looking for.

1.) Orthostatic intolerance or NMH are CLASSIC for causing this. Yes, they are

2) So is bartonella. I beleive it has something to do with the fact that bartonella is tons more prone to causing vasculitis type symptoms.

Other than that, youre up a creek without an answer with me

Thank you!

My blood pressure is definitely not high. It's usually about 107/80 I think...maybe 107/90. But definitely not high.

Would NMH cause this, even while not changing position? And would it last a long time with NMH? When it happens, it stays for a couple of hours.

Hmm...I get this symptom, too. It's weird and exactly how you explain it - you can feel the heat there and when you look at it in the mirror you can see it's bright red.

I haven't ever checked my BP at that time, but I have been diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope (a form of dysautonomia similar to NMH). And I also have tested positive for Bartonella, but been treated 4 times for it (nasty little bug doesn't want to leave). If anyone else has ideas of causes, I'd love to hear them!

I had this one time for a few hours, in days before getting really sick - tho I believe it was mostly restricted to the lobe. I saw it a couple months ago on a credible-looking web page Barb Peck showed me, where it was indicated as a sx of borreliosis (I dont know how or whether they ruled out its being caused by some co-infection). I dont think any particular physiological mechanism was proposed.
