Ive had terrible stomach pain, burning throughout digestive tract for several days now. I have been on Prevacid 2 x's daily for almost 3 years now. Ive been reading that taking too much antacid medicine can actually start to cause more harm then good. My GI dr wants me to come off of my antacids until after I have my endoscopy done in about 2 weeks.
Right now my stomach burns worse then ever!!!!! How am I supposed to go on meds to combat the Lyme/bart if my stomach can't take it?

I have read and know some people who believe that gerd, reflux etc is really a problem of not producing enough acid -and that antacids only perpetuate the problem -
Some of them get relief from milk of magnesia (magnesium is good for lyme too), reducing carbs especially at night and some think sinus drainage causes some of the problems and use antihistamines when needed - just some ideas...???

Ive also read that supplementing with Hydrochloric acid can help too. Yet here I thougth that taking the antacids was helping. Well I guess it helped the GERD, but it created other problems for me!!

I had those symptoms way before I was diagnosed with Lyme, and it turned out to be an h.pylori infection and gastritis, both easily treatable.
I had been on every antacid around until I insisted that the GI dr. do an endoscopy. The burning was so bad that I couldn't even drink water.
You want to make sure the dr. checks for h.pylori, which is treatable with 2 weeks of an antibiotic in conjuction with a proton-pump inhibitor. I don't remember which ones, it was a long time ago, but it worked.

I get the buring in the intestinal area as well. Can they see a part of the intestines with an endoscope?

Nancy,
No intestines can not be seen by an endoscope only a colonoscopy.

Have you considered apple cider vinegar? Google it.
