Hello,

After much suffering and limited success of oral abx, my doctors have decided to do IV Rocephin.

My PCP sent me an information sheet outlining the treatment and it said that I would receive the drug everyday for 4-6 weeks. Is this correct?

I was under the understanding that the treatment would be much longer. If I tolerate the rocephin, what is the ideal length of time that I should go with the IV treatment?

In addition to the IV rocephin, my LLMD will have me on oral biaxin and tinidazole.

Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

The length of treatment is really a day to day thing. The length of time you have been infected will impact treatment. Your LLMD is probably just giving you an estimate he will have to evaluate your symptoms to make a decision at some point.

One thing I will say, it appears that research that has been done that IV Primaxin does a better job than IV Rocephin. Relapse rate is alot less. You might want to talk to your doctor about that. Just a thought.

I have been on orals and Bicillin and Rocephin IM Injections over the past 2 1/2 years. I am now on IV Primaxin, Glutathione IV push, Ketek and Cipro and after a major 2 week herx, feel the absolutly best I have felt in over 8 years. Hope I can sustain it. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but just remember there might be many tunnels ahead so never give up, one day it will get better. Just the past couple of days we have seen some of those on this board.

We have a woman locally who did great on 21 days. I was non-responsive for 6 months and the last 3 months got all my gains. I was also non-responsive to orals for a year previous. Then after IV I responded to orals. My bacterial load was low enough then I guess. You never know how long you need. There is a free Rocephin program if it becomes a cost issue. I hope it will be long enough for you- it very well may be*!!
Many people do well with shorter courses. I hope you are one of them.
Good luck, best wishes,
Sarah
