I found an attached tick on myself this morning. I think I know where/how I got it. One in a million chance, of course, that I would have gotten bit.

BUT I DID!!

Been off abx since November after 4 1/2 yrs of taking them. Hello Doxy! Barf! I can't believe this mess!

Oh, Man LymeToo

What luck!!

I'm going to say a prayer for you--that it isn't carrying any pathogenic strains-of whatever(too darn long to list!)

Take Care!!!!

Did you keep the tick? Maybe you can send it in, and see what the little bugger was carrying.

Oh no-- what a crummy deal but at least you found it and can start doxy asap.

I took Adoxa an expensive brand name of Doxy...it didn't bother my stomach.

My love and good thoughts are coming your way.

Jesus, Lymetoo, how did the little bast**d get on you? Can you get a dr to give you an abx injection and then take , I don't know, doxy??
Doxy, 600 mg a day, divided into 2 doses??? For 1-2 months?? Stay outta the sun, take with a full glass of liquid, have food in your stomach, don't lie down for 30 minutes, you know the drill.

Maybe Ketek would be better???

You're my hero-I just posting today asking what to do if I found a tick on my child.

On what part of your body was it?

Please tell us what prophylaxis you are going to take.

Were you able to contact your LLMD, if so, what was prescribed?

Don't worry-you know what to do.

Did you keep the tick? You can send it off to Igenex for testing and that way you'll know...

Posted by hiker53 (Member # 6046) on :

Dang ticks! Where did you find it or rather where did it find you? I have never seen a tick on me (and I have lyme). Matter of fact I have never seen a tick on any animal or human, just pictures, and I hike all over the country.

My prayers are with you!

tutu,

Please, please put the sucker in a plastic bag and mail it off to Igenex...worth every bit the $55.00. It doesn't matter if it's live or dead. They can still do a DNA test.

That's what I did when we found a tick in my husband's head which we think had been there for about one and a half days to two days.

They called us to let us know it was positive, and he immediately started on Doxy for six weeks. He's fine now.

Please, please, it's worth it. Just do it!!!

Yeah, I have the little %$@@& DEAD in a little plastic baggie!

For all you detail freaks [that's me too, so I understand! ] I went to Springfield with a friend for a meeting last night and before we left town we ran across a beagle who was wandering where he could have gotten run over.

If it had been me, I would have left him there. Not because I have no heart, but because I don't go near animals who could be harboring ticks/fleas for quite obvious reasons!

The dog ended up on the floor in the front with me! I didn't pet him, that's for sure! He was in the car about 10 minutes. We found a place we thought he belonged and let him out. [someone told us where they thought he came from]

So, this morning when I took my shower, I found the tick on my hip. Thank goodness it was where I could see it because I didn't even think to do a tick check.

I should have thought about it, but I guess I didn't really think I was THAT unlucky!

It was quite a shock to find the tick since I haven't seen one in a LONG time....Oh, except for the one crawling up my leg last year!

So, maybe I will send it to Igenex. I did have that idea in mind. My LLMD was out of town, but I got managed to get a script for plenty of doxy. YUCK!

I wanted to puke when I got back from Walgreen's with my huge bottle of doxy! I took two [100mg each] and then proceeded to have diarrhea.

Thanks for all the love and prayers. Yep, at least I know what to do!

Lymetoo, there is no way you are going to go through the same experience again. You know too much by now. And you haven't had new Lyme symptoms yet!

Also, I was surprised to sift through the search engine and learn you did heavy treatment for Lyme and bartonella at the same time, and it apparently worked. If you aren't too annoyed by the subject of Lyme at the moment--and it does look as though you are--could you write what finally worked for you?

Again, don't worry, you are not going to go through the same experience again. You are on top of this.

Gosh, Liz. I took just about everything under the sun for the lyme. Biaxin did the most for me, as well as clindamycin/quinine for the babs. I never did take mepron, though I did take malarone. Can't say it did much for me though.

Dr C also put me on all the hormones I was deficient in. Balancing the hormones in someone who has had Lyme a long time is very important.

I was found to be needing growth hormone, and that helped alot with energy and pain. It's expensive, but my insurance pays for it. Lucky on that one!

The capper is the mangosteen juice you find me raving about. It's taken away any remaining pain and fatigue, as well as lingering depression which I didn't realize I had until it was gone!

I feel better than I have in about 25 yrs. That's saying alot when I've had Lyme for 45 yrs. The pain first showed its ugly face 25 yrs ago and is now gone as long as I take the juice.

So that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

News from Tick Central-

By Tommy Tick

I will not panic, I will not panic...

I woke up this morning and found a human in my mouth. Not sure how she got there or why she tried to shove her entire hip in my face, but it was really a nightmare!

I did do a human check before I went to bed but sometimes you just can't see them coming and know their intent. Who would have thought... after all that I have been through with humans.. THIS could have happened again!!!

Had I not be fooling around with that stupid dog that was lost and wandered past my home.. I am sure this wouldn't have happened.

That will teach me to hitch a ride on strangers.

I wonder if I should stick her in a plastic bag and send her to the human disease lab to see if she may have given me some sort of infections? From what I understand, humans can carry multiple infections.

I haven't seen a human in several years, except for the one that tried to put their leg in my mouth last year. I promptly removed their leg just as it was about to be stuck in my tiny jaws.

I think I will start taking some antibio-TICs to see if I can kill any infections she may have given me before they get into my system.

This really freaked me out!

I guess that will teach me to be more careful... and to always do a human check!

``````````````````````````````````````````
Hey tutu..
Don't know what to say except EEK! Sorry you had a tick attack again. NOT fun. I know how you feel... truly I do.
But.. as we all know.. YOU know what to do to stay on top of the situation. It isn't fun.. but it's gotta be done.
If you send the tick off.. perhaps consider notifying the health department of the results if it comes back positive.
Squeaky wheels get the oil. We gotta get folks (officials) to start paying more attention to tick control and education.
And do know.. no matter how careful you are... those ticks are sneaky little suckers. That is why they have been on this earth for so long. What happened to you happens to the most careful people. Sometimes you just can't prevent it.
Feel better soon.. mentally. Don't let this ruin your fun in the sun... ok?
Keep your chin up.. and...
Don't let the tick win!
Well, Miss tutu, I just can't believe this has happened.
With all you have on you right now, you certainly did not need to have this added.
On the other hand - you are truly blessed!!!
You know what the dangers are.
You knew what to do.
And you're doing it.
I pity all the poor souls out there who just pull off a tick & go their merry way.
They aren't even aware of the dangers!!!
....or what to do if they have symptoms!!
If you're feeling depressed, just go back & reread Tincup's "News from Tick Central".
Also, a good laugh helps the immune system.
Sending big hugs!!
Will be praying that all goes well for you.
Darn, darn, darn. To put it nicely.
Now for the positive stuff. You're much too lyme literate to let a little old tick get the upper hand on you.
Your health is better now then the last 25 yrs, so your immune symstem will be able to fight this thing too.
I know you've been considering a rife machine. Now may be the time.
I wasn't saying nice words as I was reading your post. I was feeling your fear.
Go get em!
Tincup that was a much needed laugh. TuTu you just have to have this tick checked out. I"m from St.Louis MO.-but between 1993 and 1995- I lived in Long Island and Seabright, New Jersey. Inever had any symtoms that I'm aware of. Anyway, Imoved back home and became pregnant again in 1998. Everything went down hill from there. If there was a sytom (SP?) I had it. I've was in great health. I've always wondered where did I get this monster. One infect. disease doc. herein town just looked at me and said ther's no way you have lyme. You don't get it in Missouri and sent me out the door. Never mind I had all positve tests from my intern (he's a blessing)-sent to labs in California and Missouri. I will pray for you. ~jackie
Thanks you guys! Y'all are so wonderful! Tinny, you make me laugh ALL THE TIME! You're just too clever!
Ironically, I DID order my Rife machine the very day of the tick bite! Put the check in the mail earlier that day!
Yeah, at least that tick had plenty of tush to pick from!
You've been there for everyone - we're here for you. If I would see one, which I haven't that I know of, I'd get antibiotics right away, if the tick was positive or not. What's a month or two of antibiotics compared to a life of hell with this disease.
Good luck - good thoughts and prayers -
Lymetoo, good luck..Prayers coming your way..Just shows how smart and determined the little buggers are..Why chew on a dirty dog when you can go for a good clean tender piece of meat..
Even though I know this is a horrible thing, the bugger chose someone that is literate and will fight it..
Oh boy! I'm so not used to taking doxy!! I just NOW realized that I stood out in the full sun for 15-20 minutes today!
I was visiting my mom at the nursing home and we decided to take her out on the patio since it was such a beautiful day!
This was her first time outside since her stroke last month.
I have a splitting headache and just figured out that my headache began after coming inside from the sun. I never even thought about the doxy situation!
Also....just found out from Igenex that I have to pay $55 for EACH test. $55 if I want them to test for Lyme, $55 if I want them to test for babs, etc!
Shoot! That's so expensive! I'm really more worried about getting the babesia again than the Lyme. Don't ask me why. Both are equally awful.
OK.......whining session over, I think.
Sorry you got bit, Tutu, but so glad you found the little bugger. How about having the tick tested first to see if it is infected with anything? Igenex does that, I think.
Lymetoo,
Jacob had two on him this weekedn--my husband screamed like a girl for me to come quick.
Then when we found the other one...
I have burned the shrub pile and cleared out all the honey suckle and wild roses and planted grass and wild flowers--Gosh I know it is bad--but I am going to spray the whole plantation from top to bottom this weekend.
I know it is wrong but I live in a subdivision with large lots and can't have guines...
I have to take care of myself so I can take care of my babies, and I have to take care of my babies!!!
Lymetoo, I know your fear.
I am sorry too, Lymetoo.
Is there a panic room for all of us to get into right now?
I pulled a tick off of my girlie yesterday.The Dr. of course said,"wait and see".
I am calling now and waiting for a return call,I am so mad,this wait and see stuff does not cut it anymore.
I am sorry ,can't help you with the rash,I never had one,just these bumps on the knees.
Good luck with your Doxy,why us?Huh?
Lymetoo,
I was just reading you post, I'm so sorry to hear you got bit again. THose Damm ticks!
That is my biggest nightmare.
You are in my Thoughts and Prayers.
Just my opinion but I would do the Babesea and Lyme test.
I've read that a rash can show up right away to 30 days if my memory is correct. Many times when I use my heating pad now and am treating it will bring out my rash in the places where I was bitten. [I am one wierd one LOL]
Take care of yourself, and keep away from those stray dogs.
Love,
Swiss
Cave,
When we sent my husband's tick in to Igenex, the first qu I asked was how reliable is this DNA tick test. They told me extremely reliable when it came to testing ticks.
So, when they called to say his tick was positive, we believed them. It does, however, take around l2-l4 days for results, but if positive, they will call you.
We just paid $55.00 just for Lyme testing of the tick and not any co-infection testing.
So, tutu, I would go ahead and do all the Doxy Dr. C suggests and not wait until you hear for results. Twelve days seems like an eternity in some instances, this being one of those.
I just hope it is not positive and that you had a "human friendly" little guy.
Oh yes. I've been on the doxy since about 5 hours after finding the tick. {Some folks just didn't read the posts.}
I went ahead and had the tick tested for Lyme and babesia. Ouch on the money!
I weigh about 130lbs. Don't you think 300 mg is enough? Not sure my stomach can handle 400mg. I'll try again though. I know in this case, more is better!
Every time I take 2 pills, I get diarrhea. So today I took one at breakfast, one at lunch, and 1 at dinner. Maybe I can still get one more in. [Got diarrhea after the second one. Same thing yesterday too.]
What did Dr. C say...I'm assuming he said to do doxy right?
The rash thing...I hope it's nothing but when my daughter came back from Houston...(tickville central) she had 3 bite marks on the back of her leg. Of course she had no idea where they came from and then it turned into a rash.
Hopefully the rash is nothing and the tick comes out clean.
Doxy is one of the few abx I felt great on and I'm super sensitive.
Take care!
