This is a great article I had misplaced. It was in the Psychiatric Times in June 2004 by Brian A. Fallon, M.D. It's filled w/great stuff. It is about 4 pages long. He say "Too few clinicians consider Lyme disease despite its epidemic status in several areas of the United States." One of the things that was really interesting was a case report of a 12 year old girl "from a Lyme disease-endemi area presented w/ an unstable psychotic disorder w/severe depression, paranoia and visual hallucinations. Her symtoms developed 2 years earlier, initially w/ a porlonged anxiety attack followed by sever depression w/ self-destructive thoughts and behaviors. Hospitalized several times and diagnoed w/schizoaffecitve disorder, she did not respond to antidepressant, anticonvulsant or antipsychotic medications. Prior to her illness, she had been very active socially, w/ no personal or family history of psychiatric disorders. Further questioning revealed a history of many tick bites w/ the development of a classic erythema migrans rash two years earlier that was treated two weeks of oral antibiotics. Subsequently, she developed migrane headaches, radicular pains in her lower extreminties and intermittent knee pain. Ther was no history of joint swelling of cranial nerve palsies. Serologic testing revealed a positve Lyme C6 ELISA and a Lyme IgG Western blot w/ four Lyme-specific bands. A lumbar puncture revealed Intrathecal antibody production. Although a brain MRI was normal, a brain SPECT scan revealed decreased perfusion in a patchy heterogeneous pattern consistant Lyme disease. In addition to continuing on a mood stablizer and antipsychotic medication, she was treated empirically with three month of intravenous ceftriaxone w/ marked improvement neuropsychiatrically, followed by several months of oral antibiotic therapy. She was able3 to return to school and her pre-illness baseline state of excellent psychiatric and physical health."

I tried to google this with no success. No article by Fallon in the June 2004 issue, and when I searched under his name, couldn't find anything either. Could you have the pub wrong? Or maybe the author?

By the way, I'm a computer idiot. I do everything google. I can't figure out how to cut, paste, copy, etc. Not to mention I made a C in typing (A for effort and paperwork- F for actual typing)- and that was before the lyme messed with the left side of my body. Oh and my 9 year old son enjoys the fact he can do all this stuff. ~j

Try going to Dr. Fallon's web site at www.columbia-lyme.org I think I saw the article there at one time...
By the way, I was evaluated by Dr. Fallon at the end of March. He and Dr. Corbera are WONDERFUL doctors!!!! If I could bring them home to AZ (the lyme capital of the world, ) I would!

The whole article is long, but the first section is about 4 pages.

But first free was right about the pub and date. Don't understand why this is not on the website of Psychiatric Times. I checked the back issues and didn't find it. Is my lyme brain failing me again or do they not have all articles available on internet?
