I'm very nervous this morning. About a year ago I had an allergic reaction to Erthromiacin(don't remember what I was taking it for). Looking back I could see all the symptoms that came on over a day leading up to it. First everything started tasting like metal. Then I couldn't eat at all because it would get stuck in my throat. Then my airway closed up more and more until I couldn't talk any more than a squeek, and it got harder and harder to breathe. Once the ER dr finally got around to talking (not examining) me, he laughed at me! He said there was nothing wrong with me, I could breathe fine, I just had laryngitus (sp?). Then he laughed some more! At my insistance, he finally checked my throat. He found that the little thing (can't remember what it's called) that hangs in the back of the throat was very swollen and cutting off my airway. Then he SCOLDED ME for not taking it more seriously! Urg!
Anyway, I started on Mepron and Zithromax Friday. The pharmacist told me a week ago that if I'm allergic to Erthromiacin I could very well be allergic to Zithromax. I left a message for my LLMD a week ago asking what I should do if I have an allergic rxn since I'm supposed to take both meds for four months. I never got a reply. It's possible he isn't taking me seriously since a lot of people "think" they are allergic to antibiotic because of the herx they experience (so he told me). However not being able to breathe is a whole other ballgame! I don't know if he remembers my telling him my rxn to Erthromiacin. And since I didn't get a call back all week, I don't see how I'd get one on a Sunday. This morning I had a piece of toast and I had a hard time getting it down. Then my meds seemed to get stuck in my throat. Obviously if it gets to where I can't breathe, I'll go to the ER. I wish I knew what my LLMD wants me to do though. My LLMD is very kind and an excellent dr (which I appreciate after years and years of quacks!), but the office is terrible about messages. Oh, well, I'll just have to see how the day progresses.
I'll sorry this is so long. I'm just nervous and had to share it with someone.

Get a prescription for an Epi-Pen. If you can't get in touch with your LLMD, try your GP. It has epinephrine in it and you stab yourself with it if you have a severe allergic reactions.
People with severe bee or nut allergies carry them. My LLMD prescribed one when I started abx, in case I was allergic.
