..."Although no test for Borrelia burgdorferi antibody is 100% specific or sensitive, the C6 Peptide antibody test has been shown in recent studies to be more sensitive and specific than traditional IgM and IgG antibody tests. The test may be supplemented by testing with a standardized Western blot method. However, it should be recognized that a negative western blot result does not rule out Lyme disease." http://www.specialtylabs.com/tests/display.asp?keyword=c6&assay=1&technotes=0&noses=yes
http://www.immunetics.com/c6/whatwedid.htm Immunetics has pioneered the use of the C6 peptide, a 26-amino acid sequence within the Borrelia membrane protein VlsE. This is the first truly specific and sensitive marker for infection with the Borrelia burgdorferi spirochete. The C6 peptide sequence is highly antigenic, generating an immune response in nearly all human cases soon after infection, and it is specific to Borrelia strains causing Lyme disease. It is not found in other infectious organisms, eliminating cross-reactivity at the source.
Where are you getting this test done?

The test is being done @ Quest's Nichols Institute in California...I tested + for 5 bands (igg) and 1 bands(igm) @ Igenex...tested neg for wb at Quest as well as the elisa...so now am waiting for the Lyme C6 Peptide results that was orded by my neurologist. He, not being a LLMD, doesn't hold much stock in Igenex. Will let you know the outcome next week.

I have had many C6 peptide assay ELISA tests. They always came out positive except for 1 equivocal. That's probably because I have a strain that works well with that test. I am also + on all Quest ELISA's and have tested CDC positive with their WB's more than once. I was also CDC postive for WB IgM with Igenex and MDL 2 years in to my treatment.
Hope the test works well for you too,
Corgilla
