Hi Lymers,

Just wanted to ask some of the vets if they have ever experienced bad smelling urine?? Kind of like when you eat Esparagus, but w/o having eating it. I have had it on and off recently.

Would love to find a "stinky pee buddy" jk

Oh, The flagyl makes it stink bad! I'm guessin' that means it's working? Didn't ever know asparagus did that too.....

I'm having the same issue, although I'm not sure which one of the medicines is causing it. I'm planning to discuss it with my LLMD next time I see him. I recommend you do the same.

This is what I know:

The smell comes from uric acid.

Uric acid is an organic compound of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen.

It is a minor end-product of nitrogen metabolism in the human body (the main product being urea), and is found in small amounts in urine.

Saturation of uric acid in the human blood stream may result in kidney stones when the acid crystallizes into solid inside the kidney.

I am brand new to Lyme abx--on Zithro and Minocin as of Tues and I have definitley had bad smelling urine. I know it must be one of these two but who knows which. Being so new to this I thought this must be a typical reaction. Sorry but I am glad to know I am not the only one.\ Have a great weekend.

I've been having that only with my poo smells just like the asparagus pee though. It comes and goes. My doc is puzzled and thinks it probably means something but we don't know what as yet.
