My mom was given a diagnoseis of MS about 5 years ago. Before she got that she had FM since I was a little girl and lived in the same place where I was first bitten by a tick.
She is now on Avonex for the MS and is doing really well. I think the Avonex shuts down the immune system so it stops attacking her. In the meantime the little creeps keep multiplying. I am going to send her some of this info on Lyme. I want her to get tested.
Does anyone know if she would have to stop the Avonex before being tested? If that is the case it is going to be a hard sell.

Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. "Lyme literacy" means, first and foremost, knowing how to diagnose the disease accurately. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead. The tests that seems to be considered accurate by the Lyme community, and accepted by the medical community, seem to be the Igenex IgM and igG Western Blot tests. Covered at least partially by insurance. www.igenex.com
Bowen is also considered by many patients to be accurate but seems to be less accepted by the medical community. The test uses microscopic flourescence, is more cutting edge, produces more positive results. Not covered by insurance. www.bowen.org

My m.s. doctor says that they discovered a new kind of lesion (shows up in your brain mri) that if a definite marker of m.s. lesions. I mean compared to some lesions that could be lyme or m.s. related. Of course not everyone has lesions but it can be a pretty good indicator from what I've been told. ~jackie
