My 8-year old son was bitten by a tick two years ago. He developed bulls eye rash and was treated with amox.. Four months ago he became sick with flu-like symptoms. He hasn't been completely well since that time. He's had flu-like symptoms, two positive strep-throat tests, constipation, burning stomach, conjunctivitis, lack of energy, jaw pain, headaches, sinus problems, clearing his throat often. Our doctor put him on one month of antibiotics. He said that will cover strep, sinus infection and lymes (which he highly doubts my son has). He also said if this treatment doesn't work he will refer us to an infections disease doctor. My son's test for lymes came back negative. I don't know which test this was. As a mother who has spent a great deal of time with her son, I suspect there is something wrong. He is not a boy who likes to rest, but he just can't find the energy he needs to do the things he has always loved. Any suggestions on what we should do after the treatment? Does anyone think that my son doesn't have lymes? Sorry if I've used poor message board edicate. This is my first time posting anything...ever. Thanks.

Call the 1-800 numbers and get your free test kit. Have your Dr draw the blood. These are specialty labs that have a much higher rate of detection.
Does your son feel better while on the antibiotics?
You can also post on Seeking a Doctor. Put your city - state in the heading. You could be reffered to a LYME Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD). This way you can do what's best for your boy.

My 9 year old son has Lyme as well. I did not take him to his pediatrican first but to a LLMD to be tested. I did however have to take him recently to as he is not showing antibodies to hepatitis and needs to be vaccinated again. After explaining that my son has Lyme his pediatrician, who I have always thought the world of, asked me if my son had completed his three week treatment for Lyme. I was sooooo disappointed in her response. I immediately said "Thats not how you should treat Lyme!" I then of course spoke about long term treatment while she just gave me "the look". My recommedation is to find a doctor in your area that is lyme literate instead of trying to educate your prsent doctor. You'll be much more successful. Being treated by a doctor that is Lyme knowledgable is so much easier than trying to open the closed mind of another doctor.

???? Igenex's charge is only $90 per test. I don't think that's high and they are highly respected in the Lyme community....especially this one. Insurance paid for my tests.
mik.....I hope you will try to find an LLMD. There aren't too many in your area. Only one that I would even consider going to.
If you can get your son's pedi to order the lab kit from Igenex, that would be good. The dr is not likely to know how to treat your son long term, however.
Do your homework here and read, read, read. If you have more questions, just fire away!
