There is a good doc in Missouri. Post on the seeking dr. page and someone will get back to you. I have to drive about 7 hrs one way to mine.
I am glad you found this forum. They have been very helpful to me since my diagnosis a few months ago.
Yes, people do get better with proper treatment
Here's the link to the doc that'll fix you up, he's one of the best in the country. http://www.drcharlescrist.com/
Name the pain med, and somebody on here has taken it. Lyme can cause severe pain, however, with proper treatment it'll go away. Can you be a little more specific ?
Where is the pain ? Spiking, or dull, etc. ?How long have you been ill ? The more specific the better.
You have come to a great place, you will get excellent advice and encouragement from all the people on here.
There are a few people who live in Arkansas and post on here, many of them see a LLMD (Lyme Literate MD) in Springfield,MO. Someone will post soon and give you the links to all the great sites.
I have had lyme for about 8 years, getting treatment for 4 years. I have terrible headaches and joint pain, and I will be getting a pain pump in June, over the years I have tried about every Pain/Migraine med there is, along with several different arthritis meds. Each Lyme patient is different and hopefully for you getting the right treatment for Lyme will help with the pain.
Best Wishes

WELCOME To LYMENET
Here's more goodys! A typical response to newcomers.
Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. "Lyme literacy" means, first and
foremost, knowing how to diagnose the disease accurately. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.

Drink plenty of water. Might get a big reaction when drug starts nailing the germs, this means it is working. Start reading some of treepatrols link for newbies for more info on herxheimer reaction, etc. Need to watch your diet, eat low carb diet, no sugar, or you could have yeast problems. It is great that you have gotten started on treatment. If you have had this for a long time, you will need longterm treatment, which your current doc may not be prepared to give you. This disease is being botched by the medical establishment which is why you were undiagnosed for so long. Getting adequate treatment will also be a challenge. So, you should consider making an appt with a lyme expert, known here as lyme literate medical doctor (LLMD for short). The other reason why you may want to do this is that frequently ticks give you more than one kind of germ, and lyme docs know to test and look for these other germs, such as bartonella, babesia, etc. Doxy will not hit these two germs, will need a different treatment for them. It is complicated.

Any suggestions ? Should I be going to a Doctor that treats Lyme disease ?

I take Doxy twice a day and its 100mg ,I don't know how long I'll be taking it for sure , i know I'll take it for three weeks, but this doctor acts like this is no big deal, and then I started reading all this and it changes things , I think i will try to get a appointment with a doc that treats Lyme. Thank all of you for your help.

Hi sc! One of the best LLMD's in the country is in Springfield, MO. How far is that from you?
oops!

Springfield, MO is about 4 hours from me, I think I'll try to get in to see this DR.C. , I think this doc I'm seeing now thinks that this is a joke, I called him today and told them the Darvocet wasn't helping at all, I don't think they understand how bad the pain gets, do you have pain that is horrible?
Posted by first free (Member # 7140) on :
Hey there~I'm sorry you feel so rotten. What test came back and or what clinical fings were used to diagnose you with lyme? The pain is very real. My pain did't get better until I started i.v. roecephin. A lot of the pain has gone away but I have constant fatigue. Hang in there.~ jackiequote:

Do you ever feel better? I was told today that I had Lyme disease, I don't know much about it other than I feel awful, does anyone have to take pain meds to deal with the pain, I have never had anything like this, any advice? And is there any doctors to treat this in or around Arkansas ?
Posted by sctc4e (Member # 7344) on :
I took a blood test, and the doctor said that 2 out of three came back positive but he didn't tell me anything other than I had Lyme disease, He started me on 2 shots a day of the roecephin and I feel alot better now , I still take the doxy and Loratab but the pain is getting alot easier to deal with.

I used to have horrible pain from Lyme. I'm now at 95%, thanks to Dr C. He will evaluate you for co-infections that often accompany Lyme disease. They require different meds than Lyme does.
oops!
