Hi,

Photo-sensitivity is a new and increasing symptom for me. It is causing me to be more active and awake and feel better at night. During the day I can't face the daylight, esp. with the spring.

Anyone else with this? What do you do? Some days I don't want to open my blinds, and then I don't get any sunlight.

I am not on doxy or any of the tetracyclines.

Thank you for any suggestions!

Hi Henson,

Very common lyme symptom, most on here have experienced this. My son often wore sunglasses in the house, or we kept shades pulled, etc.

As treatment progresses the light sensitivity should be less pronounced, and not as frequent. Our son is on the tail end of tx and he still gets it occasionally. For us, I think light sensitivity, stiffness, and fatigue are three of the last stubborn symptoms of this disease.

the ocular manifestation of lyme is inflammation of the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve (V1).

"lunesta", a sleep aid by prescription, will enable you to get back on your sleep cycle. it induces deep sleep and smooth transition into REM.

the photosensitivty can be fixed by abx, but the sleep cycle must fit into the circadian rhythm.

Thank you so much!

I will ask my doctor about getting Lunesta. I definitely need something like this.

I am starting to feel like a mole or other animal that lives in a dark hole. LOL. I don't mean depressed, just a nocturnal creature. Yikes - not like a cockroach! "In the dark" is taking on a whole new meaning.

Seriously, it is so frustrating. Normally I love the outdoors and we are having some lovely spring days. I will go for the sunglasses.

Thank you for writing!
Warm wishes to everyone to feel better very soon.

Henson, I've had the light/sun sensitivities for 35 years! The last 10 years, I have been living in my cave, but hubby likes the light so it's been a problem.

DX last year w/lyme after 34 years so I'm on doxycycline which has made them 200% more sensitive than what they were already.

Have you ever had a sleep study done to see if you have sleep apnea & stop breathing while sleeping?

I never had until 12-04 & 1-05; yes, I have that too and it proved I NEVER reach delta, level 4, where my body can heal & I wake up refreshed!

For more good info about your eyesight, here is: www.marshallprotocol.com and look for AUSSIE BARB's "easy finder" grouping many of similar posts together.

Read about NOIR, no infrared sunglasses. I bought the 2% & 10% sunglasses. By ordering online or over the phone, they should give you a discount if you mention the marshall protocol!

They will replace their scratched PLASTIC lenses & broken side parts...sorry I can't think of the word as usual! lyme talking again to me!

A low tech answer for me was to black out my bedroom. Dawn's first light predicably woke me, and the blackout stopped that. Of course, you then have to deal with what people think, but I'd rather have a good night's sleep than listen to their "thinking".

Hi Henson
I am on doxi 600 mg a day-- It has made
me super photo sencitive-- among other
things-- So I have done more reasurch
on-- photo toxic-- In the reasurch I
found where some people where made
more sencitive after eating- Citrus-
The effect seam to happen right away.
--In hours--.
I was just as photo sencitive on low
dose of doxi 200 mg a day--3 days
after starting doxi -- I got a really
bad burn on arms hands neck face-
in just a few hours -blisters-Really
painful and Diffrent than regular
sun burn- I used to be a sun worshiper
-had a tan year round--
I drink Lots of lemonade--a gallon a
day or more- every day- for 40 years.
I make it weak-1 can frozen to
gallon of water.
So after reading the info about
citrus reaction - I stoped drinking
Lemonade about 2 months ago-
My photo sencitivity has gotten
--Much Better-- The progress was
slow--But I have Really noticed
a change for the good. Today I was
able to ride in a car for 2 hours
(I could not have done 2 months ago)
without being Burned To A Crisp--
--Texas Sun--
I still ware full -Sun Gear- now
--But maybe in a month or two--
Many people do not get as photo
sencitive as I (was) on doxi.
But some do.
I feel this may be the reason--
Do a google on -photo toxic--
there is a lot of info--
the pictures will freak you out
of how bad it can be-- also
there is a reaction of-
-sun poisoning-
read up on this-- your body is
made to be allergic to light and
makes you sicker-- I did me.
You are not on doxi- so maybe
it is citrus-maybe it is dary-
Look into what you eat- drink-
use-skin cream -vitimans ect.
I hope quiting--lemonade- is the
answer for me.--Jay--

Count Von Henson, I know what you're suffering from...it's called "pulled one too many all nighteritis.

Happens to those who get too many degrees for a living, lol!

I'm finding Lunesta to be much better than Ambien w/out the rebound or REM depravation.

Now go out into the sun (if you can find any in rainy Beantown), and treat yourself (and me of course) to a 55 gallon drum of Herrell's Lyme Mint chip!
