I've been on ketek nearly 3 months now. biaxin Dec-Feb, Ketek March - now. titers are STILL at 128, in fact, I think they've always been right at that number.

odd thing is, I feel a LOT better overall. could this be working after all, despite the numbers staying the same? good energy, knees don't hurt, etc.

I've been on mepron the whole 6 months too, and my doc said that if mepron isn't working in 6 mos it might be time to change to something else but the clindamycin (I think she said that) - not sure if I will get sick. in fact I think what WAS making me sick was the biaxin! and now I am off it and ok.

what do you think? I told her I'd like to stay the mepron course through the summer, b/c I know it isn't making me sick and I have a lot planned this summer and cannot afford to get sick.

thanks!

Hey fly...

I like your plan. Well thought out and good for your life style too!

I have noticed, in general, that when folks stop Babesiosis treatment too soon.. they often relapse. Then the second go around is usually much harder to get results. I have seen reports that 9 months or more are often needed for treating Babesiosis in some people.. with 4 being the minimum suggested in some cases.

Good plan. Stick with it unless the doctor objects.

I am not sure if a Babesiosis reading must go down to normal before you clear the infection. Good question. I believe that some folks who do have a negative reading will often relapse.. so I am not sure having a negative test proves much.

Is there a chance you are being reinfected? New baby tick bites? Unprotected sex? Mosquitoes?

Have you eaten any sheep lately without cooking them first?

Just wondering.

Good to hear you are feeling better too. My thought is...

If it ain't broke.. don't fix it.

Good luck!

sheep? what's this you say? it made me laugh out loud! do people eat sheep without cooking it?

nope, none of the above either! although I'm going to Vancouver Island later this summer and will be outside a lot, hope they don't have a tick problem.

I've had babesia twice...

Both times it's been tough to get rid of....My doc suggested what yours did....rotating to differnt treatment modality when one doesn't do the trick.

Interestingly, the meds that did the trick the first time, didn't touch it the second time.

My doc says that there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it...just rotate through the different med combos until the babs responds..

FYI...the med combos that I have tried over the years for babesia are.

Mepron/zithromax

Biaxin/Flagyl

High dose lariam

Artemisinin.
