Also, my two other children, age 20 months and 8 years old each had ticks attached and removed at the same time as their sister. They are not showing any obvious symptoms as of yet. Would you recommend treating them as well just in case?

Sometimes ticks transmit more than one kind of germ. Amoxicillin will hit lyme but not the others.

If these were my kids, I would want to have them all treated. But this might be an uphill battle with most docs. They would say to wait for symptoms. Not all ticks are infected, so maybe your other kids didn't get any diseases, but who knows? People on this forum got here because they were not caught early or were treated inadequately, so they tend to advise proactive treatment, rather than wait and see.

It is my understanding that WI does have some doctors that know Lyme better than the average doc. One thing you could do is check the support groups listing, call one in your state and ask for a doc referral. Or you could scroll thru previous posts and find one by NP40 or someone else from WI and email them.

You want to knock this thing down now, the early stage has the best cure rate.
 

I believe ALL ticks carry lyme.

My son's lyme went untreated for two months. He ended up missing 5 months of school, has done 6 months of IV abx, and is still doing oral abx. If you're going to error with your children, it better be on the side of caution.

I'd have all of your children on abx now, take no chances. Beg, borrow, or steal, but make sure that doc gives them 6 weeks worth of treatment
 

Well, you have a good head start.

AsAp I suggest reading Boctor B's Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment (article can be found at www.ilads.com .. this is the International Lyme and associated Disease Society, a medical socoety of Doctors who devote theor careers to treating tick-bourne disease)

Go there, and you will find Doc B's Guidelines.

Within that, you can read about Lyme and all possible tick-borne co-infections..
as well as check a chart on dosages and length of time according to symptoms, ect.

( Ie: with flu symptoms showing, it should be longer than just a known tick attatchment..and known tick attatchments are 30 days with no symptoms )

Another very excellent option is calling Doctor Charles Jones at 203.772.1123 to get advice as to how to proceed with treatment.

He has treated 5000 kids with Lyme, and the best thing is if you can get there..
he is in CT and many travel from around the country to gain treatment..

but if you cannot go there for treatment and eval..
then he may be able to provide phone consult for proper treatment.

Now is a key time for you all.

You have the opportunity in this window of time to erradicate the bacteria.. if adequately treated asap. Should it disseminate further and be innadequately treated, the illness could become very difficult to treat (tho still treatable)

You should look at the symptom list on Doc G's Guidelines..to get an idea.

Often the disease is gone undiagnosed, Docs will think Lyme is gone and not connect many symptoms to the disease.

You would do best to become familiar with the possible symptoms and seek aggressive treatment as per a knowledgeable specialist.

Anyone else just doesn't have the experience.

You're in a good place, your child is on abx..and if you pick up the research you can advocate for and seek the best care so that it may be treated.

IMO, the Guidelines should be your Bible even beyond this should anyone else get infected.

Three weeks is definitely not enough! I did 3 weeks after a bite, got sick a year later, and have been on antibiotics for 4 years.

Younger people seem to do pretty well though (although my feeling is that hormones in adolescence complicate matters).

I would also see if Dr. Jones would treat your other children.
