I just started getting a rash on the tops
of my hands and on the top side of my arms
from the elbow down. It seems to fade
somewhat after a cold shower or going
into the cold pool.

It doesn't look like a sunburn cause it
doesn't have that uniform color tone
like the sunburn on my back. It's kind
of splochy looking.

Is this a normal in Lyme treament or is
it mean something is not right? Or is it
totally unrelated?

Hey t...

Hard to say by not seeing it.. but several possibilities I can think of.

1. Doxy makes your skin less resistant to sunburn.. so keep that in mind. You need to always be protected when outdoors or a bad burn could occur.

2. Sometimes when folks herx they have a toxin kind of release from the skin. This can appear to be like you describe. I often get the Lyme rash back when herxing. Since you have been on the doxy for a month.. it is about the time a person can herx.

3. You may have been exposed to RMSF or Ehrlichiosis?? It can cause a rash on the hands and arms that is sort of splotchy spotted.

4. An allergic reaction to the meds. If you have no other problems.. this would not be my first choice.. but do be aware this could happen.

5. Yeast infection.

6. Other things I am too tired to think of and/or know about.

Hope that helps some.

Meanwhile.. enjoy the water!

Hi Tom
Do a google on --photo toxic--
Taking doxycycline
the burn you get is not like a regular
sun burn--can be scaley-in patches-
blisters-hurts like hell-
Areas that are exposed to more
light for longer may be worse.
Citrus may make worse-even a little
may cause increase in reaction.
Drinking lemonade seams to have made me
super photo sencitive-I quite lemomade
and I dont feel as photo-sencitive-
took a while to happen.--Jay--

It's sunburn!! Trust me. I just finished a long course of Doxy and my hands are nose are finally recovering!!! My hands were so burned and blotchy you would hardly believe it unless you saw them. My nose was simply torched.... and this was with not anything more than your typical amount of sun exposure. Unfortunately I didn't realize at first that it was happening. Once I was burned it became automatic that I got additional and worse burning with each new exposure. I was taking 800mg daily. Stay out of the sun -- even with heavy sunblock be exceptionally careful.
