I know there are certian thungs (ie. olive oil and lemon juice) that you can do to help to avoid gall bladder problems when using IV rocephin - I am now on IV zithromax - just wondering if there are any precautions that I should be taking??
Does the zithro have the same effect on the gallbladder as the rocephin??

Hi Kare,

Zithro does not have the same gallbladder problems that Rocephin does. In fact, the GB problems are pretty specific to Rocephin - no other antibiotic that I know of causes these same problems as often as Rocephin.

You should be doing things to keep your liver healthy and help it detox, though. I've been told that milk thistle is good for this, but I've never used it myself.

I was on IV Zithro for 2 months in 2002 after 4 months of IV Rocephin (which resulted in gallstones and my gallbladder being removed). IV Zithro can be a good medicine and it did help me improve, but not as drastically as the Rocephin did before it.

Good luck!
