After 14 months of abx treatment most of my symptoms have either disappeared or significantly diminished. The one exception are eye floaters.

I get these really dark brown/black floaters that I think are getting worse instead of better. Do they ever go away? Sometimes in the morning, its almost like a veil of floaters that I'm looking through. They are not like the "normal" ones that are mostly transparent...these are brown spots and strings that block whats behind it.

I had an eye dr. appt. a couple weeks ago and she said that they don't go away. She was able to see them when she examined my dialated eye. She described them as a tug of the jelly like substance in our eye on the retina. She says that sometimes our brains compensate for them.

Suspiciously, I get most of my floaters from my left eye, and my prescription has changed for the worst in this eye.

Well its been over a year of treatment now and they are not any better for me and my brain hasn't compensated...actually it feels like its getting worse.

Anybody with floater experience out there?
Should I see a lyme literate eye doctor?
Any suggestions for one in CT?

- Mike

Sorry to say it but ive had these for years and you do get used to them.

Actually I know that they get worse when I havent slept or if Im around harmfull chemicals or smoke.

I get 3 layers of floaters.
Spots, things that look like cells and worms.

Belive me if this was my only smptom Id be a happy man.

Just be happy you dont have vertigo 24/7

I had the floaters temporarily during Tini treatment. Obviously Bb sets many microscopic cysts in the eyes (I guess this is their favorable spot).

I was lucky that my floaters eventually had disappeared.

They may, however, stay forever in some people.

an opthamalogist should be able to give you an answer as to what is happening

i have been on abx for about 2 months now. (mepron/zith) and i had 0 floaters before i started. (many others though) after 3 days on abx i had several very noticeble in my right eye. i now have more on both sides. it seems the abx is causing the lyme to try to esacpe in
my eye.

i am VERY concerned. what can we do? this is something the abx seem to make worse!

Hi Electric,

I've had floaters for many years - prior to my Lyme DX. however, like you, mine had gotten much worse since beginning my Doxy treatment. I had to stop Doxy on 5/26 because my herx was horrible in my stomach. Horrible pain and burning and pressure up to my throat. Throat very uncomfortable - like burning and constricted. My doctor's office is now going to mail me script for Diflucan. I'm going to make an appt my an opthamologist. I thought everyone had eye floaters until the LLMD asked me if I had them. I told him yes, doesn't everybody. He told me no. I've asked everyone I think to since my LLMD appt if they have eye floaters and everyone has said no, except my daughter?!?! I'm anxious to hear what the eye doc has to say. I also abused aspartame (Diet Coke and Trident Gum) for many years. I have found out that aspartame can damage the retina and optic nerve.
