My 17 year old has been suffering since January 05 with the confirmed diagnosis.
To this day, she still has memory and disorientation issues.
In the beginning, she would not know me when she went to sleep some nights but would the next morning.
She has days when she does not know me for over 16 hours and thinks she is in fact, someone other than herself.
I feel like I am living with alzheimers disease, but know things should be better.
Physically she is now walking but she does has the seizures still. Can anyone give me hope that this is the way it is supposed to go and reassure me I am not a panicked mom.

Yes. But, then again, if you are my age you will find yourself saying, "Oh, it's just the Lyme" when I can't for the life of me remember the name of someone I met 10 minutes before. I've been on abx for 7 months now and my memory has improved 100% just in the last 2-3 days. I'm remembering names, phone numbers, where I left my car keys...

Hi RG My memory has gotten much better- At one point in time-- I could not remember my daughters name-- very scarry. I still have some short term loss --I sure know how your daughter feels--Jay--

YES. I was having serious problems with both shortterm and longterm memory. Over the last 6 months, my longterm memory has improved greatly, and the short term is somewhat better.
Ketek made all the difference for me. I had previously been on doxy, ceftin, zith, rocephin IV, etc, without seeing much improvement with the cognitive.

Today for the first time since Jan 2004 I have no problem thinking clearly like many years ago. In addition and to my surprise I can multiply large numbers in my head such as 15*17 or 22*13 or even 45*67. I check my results later with calculator and they are almost always good. Has Lyme disease damage given me some supernatural powers?
I think it is not the end of my sickness but the improvement at this particular time is so remarkable that I wanted to share it with you. A few months ago I was afraid of leaving house so I might be getting lost and found homework of my son from grade 3 to difficult to tackle.

I got to the point where I was getting lost driving near my home. That is not an issue now but I still have a bunch of mapquest directions in my glove box.
for.....
going to my brothers house, Once a month Dr, Every 6 months endo, freinds house, etc.
I never got lost coming or going to work. Darn it! Only work 2 or 3 days a week.
I used to be alot more confused but I'm feeling more myself "smart". Going on 6 months of treatment.

Both my son and I were pretty sick at the same time, real bad memory stuff. The improvement was slow but after 18 months the improvement was significant. We have been on abx full time for two years.
My son(16), is doing much better in school without a tutor most of the time. He works very slowly, the school isn't very toleratnt, that's another thread! We are pleased with his progress and expect the remaining slowness and memory issues to improve farther.

I dont know that the Dr. would want your daughter to be on medication for memory, or not. But if so, I have had great success with Pemoline (cylert).
I have short term memory damage due to going without oxygen for 3 min (about 12 years ago).
It can damage the liver, so it must be used with caution.
