There is Lyme in TEXAS!!!
We have a bunch of Texans here. Try posting again and ask the question, "Lyme in Texas?" in your headline.
I am in East Tennessee--so I don't know where you should go--I would start by running Lyme disease and Texas in Google. Hopefully someone will be along soon to help you.
Did you look on this site over in the doctor section?
God bless and write in you need too.
There is a GREAT doctor in MO--Dr. C--he is apparently WONDERFUL--where are you in Texas?
Linda
Blood tests for antibody will NOT be positive for a few weeks, it takes time for the body to mount a measurable antibody response. A regular Lyme test (ELISA) is a VERY, VERY, VERY poor test with a high false negtive rate. It is NOT reliable. A PCR for Lyme (detects lyme DNA in blood) may be positive , especially in the first 2 weeks of infection. Yeah, your doctor will not know about PCRs, so it's up to you. Quack, quack. A negative test does not rule out Lyme, However, a bull's eye rash is 100% diagnostic.
Phone MDL lab-877-269-009, www.mdlab.com, ask for a collection kit, no charge, have doctor sign order for testing. Or, use igenex lenex.com

I am not familiar with children's doses, perhaps someone else can help you.
Do not go to reg ped dr without a clear understanding of Lyme or your child may not be treated adequately.
Lyme is quite probably curable if treated at the time of the bull's eye rash, you have a brief window of opportunity to make sure your child is treated aggressively. if it were my kid i'd want treatment for not less than 8 weeks, probably

Can you possibly travel to Missouri anytime soon for the two of you? You're kind of stranded in TX now with the LLMD situation there.
and yes, where are you in TX??

WELCOME To LYMENET
Here's more goodys! A typical response to newcomers.
Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. "Lyme literacy" means, first and
foremost, knowing how to diagnose the disease accurately. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.

If you can, take a photo of the picture. It could come in handy later. It is probably too early to have a standard Lyme test (which are not that accurate). Also, you can expect the Dr. to say there is no lyme is your area. This is also very common.

I was misdiagnosed with a spider bite. This is not an uncommon thing.

Hi chris
I got Lyme 20 years ago in Austin TX--
My bite looked like a large purlpe red
bullseye--Lyme is in TX--
If it was my son I would put him on
at least Doxicycline 400 mg a day-
Do not waste time--If you treat earily
with strong abx for 6 months or so--
you can kill this germ--
Doc is going to try to give amoxicillin
--get doxicycline if you can--amoxi--
is not as effective--
There are many people from Tx here--
If you want you can email me or call
on phone--E mail me for Number--
Time is not on your side--Act Fast
--Do not let Docs push you around-Jay-

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. The site of the bite has totally disappeared. I am keeping a watchful eye on my son. He now tells me that he was just taking advantage of the lazy days of summer and that he did not feel ill. I promise to keep vigilant!
Thank you again. This board has been a blessing to me to understand lyme, procedure, etc.
Have a wonderful weekend!
