Hi

I do not know if Septra or Bactrim are abx for Lyme. I was given a 5 day dose (by non LL PCP) for a UTI recently and the Septra made a big difference in some of my Lyme symptoms. (Very weird!)

Is this a Lyme treatment? I will callmy LLMD but was very interested to hear if anyone else has been on it?

Has it helped you?

Many thanks! Feeling better wishes WWWWWWWWWW

Good evening Henson!

How are you my dear?

Yes, I have been on Septra DS for lyme in the past. Sorry, but I can't remember right now what else I took with it at the time. But, it was prescribed by my LLMD.

I'm sure that everything I have taken has helped in some way or another...best of luck!

Melanie

My son was on it along with rifampin for bartonella. Maybe you have bartonella? I also know that people are using it (at high doses) to treat morgellons.

I've been on Septra, Zith and Plaq for 5 weeks. (Have had Lyme/been taking abx for a year.) I herxed for the first time a couple of days after taking this combo, and I do feel an improvement. I think the Septra helps with bartonella too.

The only problem is that I think I'm developing a UTI, so I guess that type of infection is now resistant to the Septra.

Hi,

Was the UTI cultured? Is it definately intestinal bacteria (the usual culprit)?

Many Lyme patients have UTI like symptoms which are not culturable. It is the Lyme causing the symptom. One LLMD I spoke to tells me that in his experience 30% of all unexplained and unculturable bladder problems prove to be Lyme related.

I had that for years and when they did a Lyme dot assay, guess what they found? Bb in the urine!!

Henson, not so wierd at all. I was on Biaxin & Plaq, then Tetracycline for a year, and no results.

When I added Septra & Mepron to Biaxin, some of my most recalcitrant symptoms improved overnight. Noteable was my chest pain, which had plagued me for over a decade, went away. Get the picture?

What were you on before? My wife started Biaxin and Plaquenil a month ago with no real herx.

Thank you so much for the replies!

Yes, interestingly, my chest pain did improve on the Septra! However, I was confused as to whether it was because I was spending soooo much time resting in bed. LOL! (UTIs can just make you double up in pain! So I was a layabed -- but the chest pain improved!)

Thanks so much for your experiences. I am going to follow through on this. Isn't it odd how trial and error ends up helping!

To hwilsonvt -- there have been many times I have not actually Herxed on an abx, but I improved anyway. I'm not an LLMD, but I think it's ok not to be Herxing --not everyone does all the time.

Thank you again!
Sending warm wishes for everyone to feel improvement very soon!

Over the past year I've taken doxy, amox, flagyl, and ketek (which I think is like Biaxin), always combined with either zith or plaq. For babesia, I've taken mepron/zith, then malarone/artemisinin. I also took Riamet for babesia.

As Henson2 said, you don't need to herx to get better.

I've been on bactrim for 9 months. I initially herxed and then felt much improvement.

I am not sure what it is "getting" but I know it is part of babesia treatment and I think gets at Bartonella. My LLMD says if its working we'll stick with it.
