Okay, so if Lyme's is very misdiagnosed as other ailments & diseases. Is this Western test you mention a difinitive test?

Is treatment for everyone different? Is anti-biotics the #1 treatment and what is the regimen? Do people see results very slowly? or does it differ? Are people totally cured of this or do you just get a little better? Do the anti-biotics not work for everyone and what is the alternative?

Are there those out there who have regained their full health after treatment due to anti-biotics.

I understand symptoms are widely varied, are there those of you who aren't "in pain" that the loss of speach and mobility are the #1 symptom? This is the case w/ my brother-in-law. He is 39 and owned his own pre-cast stone business and fencing/masonry business for the last 20 years. And after several car accidents and getting hit w/ a stone in the head. He had back surgery and w/in months had twitches in face muscles, trouble swallowing, choking, which led them to the neuro who diagnosed him w/ ALS last Jan. He now has very slurred speach, lost his business, home, cars, and now mobility is a great issue. He is either sitting in a chair or wheelchair and can't rise from a chair on his own. What he HASN'T lost is his positive attitude and sense of humor (yet)! I feel like we've lost so much time to this "give up to" ALS attitude from doctors that I need answers yesterday, as I'm sure all of you would like to have!

DAC...I believe your BIL has lyme. I have been w/chair bound for sometime and cannot rise to standing from couch or chair. This has improved slowly for me with 8 months of the right combo of antibiotics.

As far as tests go...elisa is useless and western blot is beter, but if one has had lyme for a long time there is less chance of it showing up. This is why the cdc states lyme is a clinical diagnosis.

Your bil could have been bitten many years ago, his own immune system keeping it in check, then it may have been triggered by the car accident. This is very common with Lyme.

I initially got a lot worse on antibiotics before getting better...this is common too.

The Western Blot test is not very definitive, but if it comes up positive, I'd say it's positive! You're more likely to have a false negative, especially if you have it done at a lab not set up to do it correctly.

Most here use Igenex or Bowen labs.

Antibiotics don't do a good job of completely curing, but many DO get their lives back. So it's worth it!

Did your BIL decide to see the dr in MO??
