Hi everyone. My doc took me off doxy and is putting me on Minocycline. Anyone have experience with this drug and the sun? Is using this drug less of a problem in the sun?

Thanks
Margie

Hi Margie,

Best of luck with your new protocol!

My personal experience has been that Mino is less of a risk in the sun than Doxy...

But, having said that, it would be wise to still take the appropriate cautions until you find out how YOU react to it, OK?

Melanie

I was on doxy and burned in the sun . I am now on 100mg mino 2 x day and have little to no problem with the sun.

I second robi's reply. I am on exactly the same dose and I have no troubles with the sun. Of course everyone's different. Just be careful the first few exposures and see how you do.

Same dose for me. NO difference than normal regarding sun exposure. My Dr. had warned of the same things. He first wanted to put me on Doxy but given the time of the year and the amount time being spent out doors he decided Mino was beter.

Thanks everyone. That is very helpful. My prescriptionlooks like it says to start out with 50mg twice a day for 2 weeks and increase after 2 weeks to 2 twice a day. The reasoning for this was that it is fat soluable and can make you dizzy?

I had problems with doxy and tetracycline in the sun, but not mino. Take 100mg twice/say. Ramping up slowly is a good idea and pretty soon any dizziness should be gone. I get dizzy very time I go on mino again, but it always subsides. I find it to be a very helpful med!

I had problems with both in the sun and more with MINO! I had to wear my friend's tube socks on my hands to drive my old volvo back from Maine to New Mexico and since my electric window was stuck UP the whole way, I had to hand very shocked toll takers my change on the freeways! hahaha funny now, but wasnt at the time!

I would say no sun, but looks like others havent had a problem.
