So far since my dx I have only traveled in-state where it would be relatively easy to reach my LLMD by phone and get him to fax a pharmacy where I was traveling. I'm considering going to western NY next month where the ticks are likely more prevalent and the LLMDs less so.

Just wondering if I should be prepared. Will ask my doc when I see him again week after next, but I thought I would ask here first to see what others do. Is it a problem getting out-of-state prescriptions filled, or getting a local doc to prescribe the right abx?

I see that there has been no response to your post. I can understand your concern.

I think it would be a good idea to keep a script on hand to use when traveling. If Doxy gets old it can cause problems, so the ability to get a fresh supply is a
good plan.

Why not check with your doctor and see if he is willing to give you a prn script for Doxy? It could afford a little peace of mind.

I have had perscriptions from our LLMD in Missouri filled in Louisiana. I also had our peditrician in Louisiana call in perscriptions when we were in Missouri and Virginia.

I usually let my peditrician know we are going to be traveling and if i know the area then i see if they have a pharmacy in the area just to be prepared. Alot of times your insurance company will have a list of pharmacies in your insurance plan.

Must be late or I just got hit by another wave of Lyme stupidity, but I don't understand the question.

If you are seeing an LLMD I AM ASUMING YOU ARE ALREADY TAKING A LOT OF ABX, why do you want a presciption for doxy?

Also, I am also in WA state, did you have find an LLMD here in WA? I couldn't find one so I travel to CA.

Good points. Heck no, not stupid at all, and understandably confusing since I didn't post much info.

I have chronic, very long-term lyme, but only recently sought a dx when my long-term fibro just would not improve past a certain point despite all my efforts.

Just had my first appointment a couple of weeks ago with the LLMD, so I'm just getting started with overall holistic health testing with the new doc and began taking some herbals and other supplements. Have not been thoroughly tested for coinfections, and have started any abx. My choice, but I am hoping to use them only minimally, only if absolutely essential.

If I got a new bite in a more infected-tick endemic area, though, yes, I would take the doxy.

I am in Eastern WA, primarily interested in holistic/alternative approach. I had hoped to get in to see Dr. K in Bellevue, but since he has such a long waiting list, I decided to see the local alternative LLMD in the meantime. He is Dr. A in the Tri-Cities. So far I quite like him. Feel free to e-mail me if you need more info.

Even with being on antibiotics (ATB), when I had a fresh tick bite, the current ATB was stopped and a round of Doxy was indicated. I did this under the direction of my LLMD.

Just went through this scenario with my teenage son, too. Wouldn't ya know it? He was out of state when he got 2 fresh tick bites.

It's better to err on the safe side.

However, I was also wondering about what Jesusislord said about the indication of his/her LLMD TO switching all abx to doxy if you get a fresh bite. I am sure the LLMD knows what is he/she doing, I haven't ask mine, good point.

and I have seen a LOT of improvement, but I am not going to ignore the point that the abx treatment is no walk on the park, sometimes is a ride to the house of horrors.
Determination, endurance and a positive attitude are a MUST to deal with this c....p.
