Hi!

I am having a strange problem with my ear. I am currently on amox and probenicid. For the past few days my ear has been really sore and it feels like there is severe pressure in it.

I thought that maybe it was wax although I have never had an earwax problem before. I tried putting warm olive oil in it but that didn't help much. I also tried syringing out my ear with warm water but it only made it more sore.
I really don't want to go to the ER because they are totally ignorant about lyme. When I tell them I have lyme, and that I am on abx for lyme, I know they will just push me out the door or tell me I shouldn't be on abx.
Anybody have any other ideas on what I could try?

Could you possibly have an outer ear infection (swimmer's ear)? Might not be a bad idea to let a doc have a look?

I have had 2 bad ear infections in the past several months. It got so bad my jaw hurt in the joint and I could barely chew.

My dr called in ear drops and another antibiotic to take along with the antibiotic for lyme. A heating pad for short amounts of time also helped.

You're really gonna need to call the dr.

My youngest son had an ear infection while on Amoxil. I thought how can this be when he is taking Amoxil three times a day???

He went to bed fine, a little fussy then woke up in the middle of the night with pus drainage and 103 fever, scared me to death. The ER doctor said that even though he was on Amoxil it didn't help with "this sort of infection".

They put him on another antibotic (i think Zithromax) and gave him Cipro ear drops and within 2 days he was like new.

Isn't it amazing when we are on so many abx and still getting sick??

Hope you feel better soon

Shove a piece of a cotton ball with baby oil on it in your ear and change it everyday that always helped me but I would still see a ear nose throat Dr.If it persists.

we have a different situation here, My daughter gets ear pain, pressure and popping and it is never an ear infection. We have had it checked. It is just another symptom of her lyme. It is a good idea to have it checked tho to make sure.

My daughers comes and goes.
