I wonder if there's something in a State database you can check..
I don't know, but it's smart to look if you have the time, as this is schedualed..
I would say check with his office or even the hospiral for former patients, but there may be privacy issues with that.
But maybe the hospital knows where to refer patients interested in surgical records. It's a very reasonable request.
Is there any way to find out through the community re: former patients?

HIPPA laws would probably inhibit disclosing their past patients as referrences.

My husband and I checked into a guy that did de-toxin kind of stuff here. Hub found that he was a bit of a charleton and been in trouble with the law. I called and talked to him and he didn't "own" any of his trouble--blamed other people. So we blew him off.
They got to have that info for Texans too...

My ob/gyn in my old city had a C section rate 100% higher than others. However, almost all of his patients were older mothers with health problems. This is not taken into account.
With GI issues, you could have a surgeon with not such good results where it is not the surgeons fault. Many times GI patients are obese, have heart problems, and high blood pressure.
Also, infections can be the result of a hospital's cleanliness issues (such as MRSA) that has NOTHING to do with the Dr.'s skill.
Word of mouth is always the best.
Remember, if you do a search on Burrascano...you would get the impression that he is a quack and that Steer knows what he is doing.
Stats in medicine are very confusing and are manipulated.
Many times when a cancer patient looks for a hospital, they are taken in by 'cure' rates. They tend to gravitate towards hospitals with these high numbers.
What they dont realize is that these hospitals reject patiens who will bring their numbers down. They dont take the more challanging cases. These rates do not show the Dr.'s skill in treating cancer as much as the individuals themselves.

Then go down to "Medical Board", then choose "medical doctor."
Can you do a search for "State of (I can't see your state from this screen) Department of Consumer Affairs" and find a page similar that list info on anyone who must be licenced to perform their job?

I would also call the MO State Board of Health and ask them how one would go about checking out a physician. Maybe they can direct you in the right path.
***Do you know any nurses at the hospital where this surgeon practices? That is an excellent way to get info. The nurses usually know the scoop on these guys; especially a med/surg nurse.
Also, it is against HIPPA rules to release names of former patients.

Ask a medical person. Even an LPN or Medical Assistant.
You have to be careful the way you word the question but I always say, "If YOU were going to have this done, what Dr. would you pick?"
That will get you the answer you are looking for (instead of saying who you would not use).
Found alot of good info that way.
