Hi All -

Can Ehrlichiosis be eradicated with Minocycline? Or must it be doxy?

Thanks!

I did 8 weeks of minocycline, but I admit I haven't been retested. I never thought the test for Erhlichiosis was accurate to begin with since I have normal white blood cell and platelet counts and none of the symptoms.

But, mino works on lyme, too.

Thanks for the response Hiker.

I know they are both tetracyclines but have read that doxycycline is the only one that gets rid of it.

I tested positive for hme and hge, had babesia and lyme on top of this and all my white blood cell counts and platelets were fine too for most of the blood draws they took over six months when no one could figure it out.

Occasionally during that time they would pick up a slight change in white cells and they would say, "oh, looks like a little virus" - that was the understatement of the century...

I was very symptomatic for ehrlichiosis though...

Anyway, thanks! I just found that I really responded well to doxy and know that my husband is trying to sort out all his coinfections and lyme I am wondering if the mino he has taken has put a dent in possible ehrlichiosis...

Would you please tell us your symptoms of Ehrlichia?

Janet,

Symptoms can include high fever, muscle aches, fatigue, headache, and sometimes a rash. Also the platelets and white blood cell counts get lower. The only symptom I have is the fatigue, but lyme, babesia, yeast all have that symptom, too.

Hi Janet,

My stomach was a mess too...I had major pain and extremely pronounced digestive issues. I lost a ton of weight really fast (25 lbs. in three weeks - that is a lot for me).

I never ran a fever that I remember - my temperature dropped really low.

I think once you have a soup of coinfections and lyme sometimes it is really hard to tell them apart but I can say the stomach problems were most indicative of the ehrlichia although it could have been the lyme too.

After being infected (though I have not recognized a tick bite) I had high fever, chills, headache, and myalgias, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
However, I first thought it was a serious flue, stayed in bed until it became better and went on with my life as before though over the years I never fully recovered: fatigue, chill, severe abdominal problems (chroinical flatulence, often diarrhea, even colitis several times without any organic origin) remained.
