I will try not to now though and think of your easy experiences.I was told that anesthetic throat spray is mostly used on it's own and most patients do not have sedation. I PREFER to NOT have sedation as I am sensitive to so many things anyway.
Have you had one, and what was it like, is it pretty manageable without sedation? Does it make you want to, or actually, throw up?? Does it hurt?

Do you mean and endoscopy, down the throat?
If so I've had two done first time w/ the throat spray to numb the back of the throat to keep you from gaging.....I kept gaging and coughing anyway. It did not hurt and had no pain after the procedure.
The second one was w/ a colonoscopy, I was a bit sedated and it was a breeze. No after effects with either.

I also got IV meds for relaxation, but not to knock me out. I was awake for the whole procedure.
No worries..it seems unnatural, but really is quite easy....

But it wasn't so bad. A little sore throat later but not bad.

I've had versed (anesthesia) in the past for a colonoscopy and for minor surgery on my hand and it didn't give me the amnesia. But this time it did. I know they used propofol and versed and something else.
Minor surgery LOL It is really only minor surgery when they do it on someone else. And that hand surgery really hurt.
The last thing I remember the anesthesiologist said he was going to start the anesthesia. The next thing I knew I saw my significant other in recovery. It is weird not to remember a procedure that I was conscious during.
I was worried because I know some Lyme patients say they get really bad relapses after anesthesia or have weird reactions. I've had some weird reactions since Lyme like to novocaine with epinephrine so I was really worrried. But I came through it fine and when I had it I was really really sick close to my sickest with Lyme.
Good luck. Hope it goes well for you. No sense worrrying that sure won't help but you should probably talk about anesthesia options in advance with your doctor and with the anesthesiologist.

No problems with gagging, but I really dont have a gagging reflex. That really depends on the person.
You will be fine. It is very straightforward.
I have relapsed after my last surgery in 2000, that's when my neuro sx started, up till then only had mostly flu-sx all the time.
I am also not keen on anesthetics as also with that last surgery (and another time) had a very very hard time coming to after it, blurred vision for a while days, not knowing if I was coming or going and feeling swollen (although noone else felt I looked swollen). I am also opiate sensitive, I have been told.
I know I'm Ok with Valium as I've taken that in pill form this year for my back, but you can't swallow anytihng before the procedure.
Will deal with that when I'm there and hope for best (i.e.no sedation).

The worst part is the nasty taste of the no-gag stuff. But it doesn't last long and you're off to never-never land.
