Hi!
My LLMD has prescribed Klonopin. He says that a lot of people with CFIDS (Chronic Fatigue) have what is called excitatory neurotoxicity and he thinks lymies can get this too.It just means that our brain is overreactive all the time which explains why we are often over sensitive to light, sound, stress etc.

It is used to treat epilepsy but with lyme it is given in very small doses.

Shall be interesting to see if it helps because I am having awful physiological responses too stress, can't cope with any at all.

My LLMD also treats a lot of chronic fatigue and works with a Dr Cheney in the US.He is no longer practicing but there are some interesting articles on the cfs research website. www.cfsresearch.org

Take care,Sue.

Klono helped with sleep and anxiety, but due to it's long half life (compared with Ativan) it turned me into a zombie if I took it in the daytime.

It's good that you are trying small doses of klonopin....
It did'nt work for me but may have been prescribed at too high a dose cuz of the lyme....I read somewhere that we need baby doses of these type of meds to be effective....sounds like your doc knows what's happening.....

Also the abx regimen you posted sounds right on cuz I've had IVceftriaxone and oral zith in past...the IVzith may be better for you......good luck...............zman

I have been prescribed Klonopin wafers .25mg up to 3 times per day.

It really doesn't have much of an effect on me at all. Just takes the anxiety edge off.

Shassler,

I take klonopin for my seizures which are heightened by stress and stimuli. Normally I take 1/2 mg twice a day, but if I know I am going into a noisy restaurant I will take a little extra. It really does seem to help and has not turned me into a zombie. Hiker

Just know that it can be addictive. I was prescribed this when I was having alot of heart palpitations and I was given too much. I was definitely turned into a zombie!!

I would give it a try though because it might really help you.

Do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor, but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express!

I've been on klonopin 0.5 mg. one tablet at night for about a year. It helps me get a restful night's sleep. I am not a zombie when I wake up. It helps me tremendously. Hope it works for you too.

I take klonapin 1mg at bedtime every night to help me sleep..neurologist did this to combat the problems i had with not sleepin with lyme...works great. I sleep straight through about 9 hours adn wake up refreshed and no grogginess...takes edge off anxiety , and restless legs too.
